Catherine Bennett She could tell he was there, she had heard the crackling branches and leaves as he had walked over, but she chose not to turn and face him, unsure if he'd want the eye contact or attention. She still acknowledged him, greeting him in a low but audible tone, "Glad you joined me." Her breath was visible in the dark and frisk air. Her arms hugged around her small but fairly built frame. It was cold, She foolishly had forgot her sweatshirt in her bag. The sky was dark, but seemed to glow, the stars filling the blank dark domain. The moon was full, and a little larger than usual, casting a glow onto the mountains, the plains, and both Catherine and Jackson. She began to speak, then paused, not sure if she should talk. "Uh..it's pretty. Isn't it?" She said, trying to start a small conversation that was not as high stakes or nerve-wracking as the one she really wanted to talk to him about. She wanted to slowly get into, slowly, and hopefully talk about the situation. She prayed and hoped that he would work with her and be comfortable talking about the situation too.

Jackson Alex-Ren ~----------------------~ Jackson made a face, looking down at the ground and picking up a fallen leaf from beside him. "I suppose...." He mumbled, staring down. He didn't want to talk. But if he was going to have to he wanted to do it fast. Before it got any colder then it already was. He wrapped his arms around his shivering torso. Downsides of being thin... No. This is good. Just put on a hoodie. Jackson silently agreed. He should have just put on a hoodie or something. His mind trailed back to his backpack. He really hoped Mum didn't tinker with it... if he was found with drugs that weren't his then he'd be for sure kicked out. He made a mental note to check when he goes back inside...

Catherine Bennett She was short and was smaller, so she lost heat pretty easily. Goosebumps were already forming on her bare arms. She sat on the grass trailing her hands through the blades. Cold, almost wet feeling under her hands. She leaned back, propping herself up with her hands and looking at the stars.
Then she spoke, a weary tone emitting from her mouth, "I- can we talk about it now?" she paused, before continuing on, "That was in middle school, I was young, and frankly, kind of foolish and stupid. I shouldn't have agreed with my parents- not when they were never there for me, not like you were. A-and, I've never been able to trust anyone, not like I did with you, with us. And I know saying sorry won't fix everything, it won't make everything better automatically. It's been eating at me for the past, let's see, seven or so years. I've been struggling, and I feel horrible for what I did to you. I should've said this earlier, I should've talked to you earlier, I shouldn't have waited this long to talk about this with you. But.. I was scared. Scared because I knew you were hurt, badly. That I hurt you. And- I don't know if you'll be able to forgive me because of how long it's been, but I wanted to say sorry. That I really mean it- I'm not trying to win you over but I just want you to know that I regret that day, and those decisions, full-heartedly, every day of my life."
She rambled, stuttering and slipping over her words, all the emotions pouring out of her. Her body seemed to almost collapse on itself as she finished, her body going slightly limp as she curled up, "I'm sorry."

Jackson Alex-Ren ~----------------------~ Jackson listened to Catherin- CC... He scrunched up his face, looking away quickly. "I... dunno... A lot happened after the.... disagreement..." He mumbled out. Jackson shrugged weakly. "I.... forgive you... obviously... It's fine... I just don't know what to do... How to do this anymore? We haven't talked in years and... things have changed." He told her, laying back against the picnic table. He could feel the rough wood pressing against his spine through his shirt. He closed his eyes tiredly, a chill running through him. "... it's cold out here." He muttered, not meeting CC's eyes. (Sorry it's so short lately-)

Catherine Bennett She nodded slowly, still hunched over and honestly quite drained from releasing all that pent-up stress. "I get it. The not know what to do. But, do you want to try to, fix it? Not rushing into anything of course.. but, start, at least." She spoke, "I mean, we have, like a week or something here? We can..catch up I guess?" the wind started blowing a little harder, her body shook.
"It is cold..we should maybe head back. It's also probably late so..we could get some sleep before catching up or anything." She said, standing up and stretching herself out. She looked at Jackson who was sitting on the picnic table bench a few feet away from where she had sit.
Catherine took a glance at the scenery, the sky, mountains, fields, with a longing look in her eyes, before turning and facing Jackson, starting to walk towards the path back to the Cabin, pausing almost right next to him, but giving him space still.
(no worries ^^)

Jackson Alex-Ren ~----------------------~ Jackson made a face before scrunching it up and resetting it. He sat up, opening his eyes and glancing at her. He scooted off the table and stood next to CC... ".... Are you still riding?" He asked, running a hand through his hair anxiously. He began toward the cabin, dragging his heavy legs. Crap... he needed to get to bed soon. Suppose eating so little may have some downsides... Only maybe? Jackson looked around, frowning deeply. It was so dark... and quiet.. and... creepy. He shook his head, grumbling. He was just a ray of sunshine now was he? They stepped inside the cabin, Jackson beelined to his bag, grabbed it, and went to the 'main' room, plopping down on the couch quietly. He was lost. He didn't even know what to say to Catherine... Jackson sucked in a breath, beginning to rifle through his bag with hidden urgency. Please nothing. Please nothing. Please nothing. Was what most of Jackson's thoughts looked like.

Catherine Bennett She looked at him, her dark brown eyes, faintly visible in the dark atmosphere meeting his blue ones. She nodded, listening to his question,
"I am. I kinda ride with the college equestrian team, but, I'm certainly not a top rider.. I'm leasing a horse for now there..uh..what have you been up to?" She responded. She followed next to him, quite exhausted from her day, observing him quietly. It was getting even darker, the moon in the back, but covered by trees as they walked back to the cabin. Something felt off, it almost radiated off of him, but she didn't want to question and make him uncomfortable about anything. As they reached their cabin, she stepped in, shaking herself, before saying a quick "I'm going to change" to Jackson, slipping into her own room. She yanked the jersey off her body, looking at the mirror. She was clearly fit, and muscular, but she was still a little self-conscious. Rummaging through her things, she grabbed a large, loose long-sleeved shirt, and right before throwing her sweatpants on, she tugged a compression sleeve on her right knee, then threw the pair of sweatpants on. She grabbed a book out of her bag, and made her way back to the 'main living room' of the cabin, sitting down on the couch with Jackson, on opposite sides.

Jackson Alex-Ren ~----------------------~ Jackson mumbled in acknowledgment to her and continued riling through his bag. He found a small bag and his face drained. He stood, hurrying to the kitchen trash. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Was the mantra in his head. He pulled out the trashcan and threw the bag away before flipping on the faucet. Hot. Use hot water. His mind supplied. He did, turning the water the hottest it could go and scrubbing at his hands. Use soap. A lot of it. Jackson squirted a lot of soap onto his hands and scrubbed his hands raw. He washed the soap off with the hot water, wincing as it burned his skin. He flipped the faucet off and grabbed his bag, quickly taking it back to his room and dropping it on the floor near his bed. Don't forget your phone. Jackson grabbed his phone and pulled it close, shoving it deep into his pocket. He hurried back out to the cuch and plopped down. His heart was drumming painfully in his ears as he shifted to get comfortable. This whole situation was stressing him out... He watched as CC came back out. He was slightly curious as to what she'd ask... but also heavily anxious. Edited at October 11, 2024 06:16 PM by Oakwood Barn

Catherine Bennett She had noticed his frantic movements, and how his hands were now a little bit red, quite red, actually. She scooted the slightest bit closer to him, still supplying a good amount of space between her and him, slightly shifted her body to tilt towards him.
"Are you okay?" she spoke, not wanting to interrogate him too much on what she'd partially witnessed, "you seem, just a little worked up. You don't need to answer if you're not comfortable-" she said while yawning a slight bit, stretching legs out and slightly wincing at her knee. She also held the book to her side, if the two were to not have a conversation, and so she could busy herself.

Jackson Alex-Ren ~----------------------~ Jackson glanced at her, eyebrows raised. He sighed, frowning, his lips parting to tell her. Don't. You're fine. He shut his mouth quickly, glancing away. "I'm fine.... thanks though." He said, slipping his red hands under his thighs to hide them. He busied himself with looking around the cabin. Wood. Door. Window. Wood. Wood. Wood. Kitchen. Wood. Wood. Wood. Ceiling. Wood. Window. Wood- His distracting was interrupted by Catherine grabbing his wrist and tugging, taking his thin wrist in her hand. He looked at her, eyes wide in confusion as she examined his hand. He made a face and shifted uncomfortably.
