Myst stood in the grass, the sun warming her fur as she breathed in the air. She stood with her weight on her left leg unconsciously. The scars on her right ankle from where the thorns had cut her didn't hurt anymore, but she had gotten so used to not relying on the leg that she couldn't break the habit. She had recently rolled around in a puddle so flies weren't bothering her, but her tail flicked anyways. She would glance around at the empty area surrounding her, secretly enjoying the silence away from the herd. She had wandered off a while ago but knew that she'd be able to find them when she wanted to. Edited at November 5, 2022 07:51 PM by Eunoia Eve

Wildfire's eyes showed surprise. "I-uh, it's no problem, really, because, I-" He paused, he had never said anything like what he was about to say before. Something told him that Tigress hadn't either though, and she had told him. That gave him the confidence to continue, "I love you too." He smiled softly. It felt like his whole body had been set beside a heater and someone had opened the cage around his heart and soul. "Yes, I remember." This was when he had been most worried for her. He remembered his promise to himself that they would talk again about that moment, about what had happened. Now was the time he supposed. He looked at her, his eyes and face soft. He ears were at a gentle angle, his body relaxed. This was the calmest he had felt in a long time. He slightly leaned closer to her, listening to every word, his on her at all times, nothing distracting him. He realized that the herd was most likely at least 2 or 3 miles away now, and probably worried. But he wouldn't leave Tigress, not now, not ever. He wouldn't even think about leaving to find the herd until she was healed enough to do so along side him.

"We had better not move on without Wildfire and Tigress, don't you think Lilac? We should wait for them." Farnight commented. As he said that, a part of him disagreed, but he discarded that thought immediately. Wildfire was a good stallion, not to mention beta, and he deserved Tigress. Although, from the bottom of his heart, Farnight knew he was jealous of the brave stallion.

Tigress watched Wildfires eyes light up with joyful surprise as she said 'I love you'. Her eyes teared up as he said the same of her. This was the type of horse she had been looking for her whole life. Someone she could rely on, someone she could trust, someone that trusted her. Her body relaxed, leaning into him. She closed her eyes, envoloped in the serene moment. The Sunrise was beautiful and despite the ashes and blood of last night, the smokey sunrise showed hope, promise, and love. "You remind me of my brother." She whispered into Wildfire's ear. "He was so brave and kind just like you. He looked out for me when no one else would. He told me I was strong when everyone else in the herd told me I was weak. He trained me to recognize my weaknesses and use them to make me stronger. I don't think I could have survived after the herd kicked me out if it wasn't for him caring about me. He would thank you Wildfire, for continuing what he started, for helping me to trust again." Then the tears started. "He died in a flood when I was younger. I watched him get swept away. I watched him die, Wildfire, if I had only been strong enough to dive in and save him." She gasped between sobs. Wildfire's warm body comforted her. "So the herd kicked me out because my brother wasn't there to protect me. I promised myself that I would become strong for him, he was the only one who ever believed in me. So I did, and I blocked out all the other horses. But you, Wildfire you sparked something in me, you seemed to be in pain too, I don't know why, and maybe you'll never tell me, but I needed that and now, now I'm here," she laughed. "Im burnt, cut, and scorched on the outside, but I am not broken, not on the inside. This has healed me." She brought her blue eyes to Wildfire's.

The wind whipped Myst's forelock into her face and she huffed in annoyance as it snapped her out of her trance. She walked over to the river she had spotted earlier and lowered her head, letting the water cool her down. A twig snapped behind her and her head snapped up and whipped around, looking for whatever caused the sound. A deer stood with it's leg propped in the air with wide eyes and Myst breathed out in relief. She snorted in a half-hearted greeting and the deer lowered it's foot onto the ground. It took a step towards her before a bang fired into the air and the animal bolted for the trees as Myst shrieked. She spun around to the source of the sound and a human covered in moss rose from farther down the river bank, holding a smoking contraption that reeked of metal. Myst reared with a piercing neigh before spinning and bolting in the opposite direction of the weapon.
