Once he got back, Liam was greeted by Journey, wagging his tail excitedly. He lowered the little pup so Journey could sniff him, but was sure to keep him high enough so if Journey was to react negatively he could move the puppy away from being hurt. After seeing Journey lick the small puppy, Liam smiled. Placing the puppy down on a blanket, he stroked his head. "You need a name buddy" he said softly. He would need to go to the pet store later to grab some things for the small puppy. He'd then go and try and see if anyone was missing him, if not Liam would likely keep him, if Katie was okay with it of course.

When Katie had woken, Liam greeted her with a kiss. "Morning, how did you sleep?" he asks, putting his head down and nuzzling her hair. "It's been a hectic morning" he comments, sighing as he held his girlfriend. "I found Riot though" he says, the relief evident in his voice. His voice was still raw and scratchy from crying gover Riot and his eyes were still puffy. When Katie told him that they had and auction he nodded. After filling Katie in on what had happened, he added "Let me go check on the puppy real quick before we go. I found him in a bush near where Riot was tied up" he explains. "After the auction, I'm gonna go do some groundwork with London" he tells Katie, knowing that his project horse would need some space and time to let his energy out. Katie notices the left over tears in Liam's eyes as he greets her. She wipes them away and kisses him with force. She snuggled into his chest, safe and content. She nods when he tells her about his plans after the auction. She took his hand, and the two of them went to the her office where she showed him a package. "It's 20 new nylon blue and pink halters! I bought them and they arrived just in time!" She squeals. "Now we can gender them without having to remember or look all the time! Wait, puppy? What should his name be?! Let's go get him!" She tugged him out of the office, and together they went to find the puppy.

Liam smiled at her excitement. He led her into their shared house, where the puppy was curled up next to Journey, sleeping under Journey's careful watch. The puppy lifted his head when he heard the door open. Barking, the puppy ran up to them, tail wagging. "He doesn't have a name yet" he explains.

"What will it be, my handsome?" She asked. "I like the name Captain? But we need to also get back." She scooped up the puppy and started walking out of the house, Journey trailing at her heels. "C'mon boy. Let's go rescue some horses." She murmured to the little puppy. Liam chuckled behind her. She looked back to blow him a kiss and, playfully, motioned for him to catch up.

Liam smiled, "Captain suits him. Captain it is" he replies. He smiled as he watched Katie smile and take the puppy. He followed her as well.

Once they had gone back to the barn, they went and grabbed Katie's keys, and together they went the hour and half drive down to the county auction-house with the dogs. Katie held Liam's hand tight as they walked through the rows of cattle panel corrals, stuffed with horses, donkeys, and even mules. She noticed a couple goats, but they were of the meat breed and perfect for food. She stopped and gazed at a high-strung thoroughbred mare that had a dead colt next to her, crushed. Katie bit her lip to hold back the tears. Poor mama. Her baby... She turned to Liam, and said, determined, "We are going to buy her, and we are going to spend whatever it takes."

Liam held Journey's leash as they made it around the auction house, eyeing all the horses and reading about them. As they came across a mare whith her dead foal, Liam felt his heart tug. "Of course" he agrees with Katie. "I think she's number two hundred and seventy four on the catalog" he says pointing her out in the booklet. He marked down the number in his small notepad he brought. His attention was then turned to a small colt, literally smaller that Journey. "Katie, come here. Look at him" he says, reaching his hand out and letting the foal sniff it.

"Aw. We are adding him to the list too. Definitely! Number 209. Marked!" She excitedly said. They walked to the auction ring after spotting a couple of other quarter horses and appies. She decided to make a note on the auction numbers for a couple mares and geldings. They found a nice seat, right in the thick of it all . As they led equine after equine through, Katie and Liam mindlessly put up their cards, keeping count of expenses spent and horses bought. They finally saw the mare with the dead foal being brought out. "There's our girl." Katie said, relieved it hadn't been pre-bought by kill buyers. She kept raising the bidder's card over and over and over again. It was up into the $8,500 mark when the kill buyer dropped out of the bid war. It was declared their horse right before the colt that Liam loved stepped into the ring. It was an easy buy. "$250 for this scrap of horseflesh!" The auctioneer called. Liam was the only bidder. 3 hours later, they loaded their new horses, 10 of varies ages and sizes, and drove an hour and half home. They left the horses in the volunteers's care before going up to their house to go to bed. The main horses had been taken care of already. As Katie put on a clean shirt, she said "Liam? I'm pregnant." Edited at November 2, 2024 10:05 PM by Blue Diamond
