You also need to ask, what was the circumstance of the death? Some of those injuries are freak and can happen virtually anywhere, others, such as heart bursts from being pushed too hard is just straight shameful for anyone who was involved with that horse, I think that's my stance on it. I do not think the deaths are just easily excusable and unimportant, but to a degree it's not just something that mostly occurs under racing.

big lick, they sore the horses hooves and hocks so they pick their legs up to an over exaggerated step, they cut the tendon on the tail so the horses cannot bring their tail down, its sad all around and i view it as much much worse than racing.

I do not know enough about Big Lick to call on it. The farrier that does our padded shoes for Saddleseat does it for a big lick barn that is local- but they do not allow public there, which is common here for showing barns. We only allow current students/owners to be at our barn.
I just will not call on something I do not know enough about/on.

Star, as a person with a working dog I don't either, but I know for a fact all bred working dogs we have will put their life on the line to get their jobs done, and that makes the dog happy.
