Hi! Brand new player here. I joined yesterday and went crazy breeding, and got 3 sooty red dun foals. One is “dark” red dun, one is flaxen Manchado, and one is flaxen. The flaxen Manchado is throwing me for a loop…. He has so much pure black on him that the other 2 sooty red duns don’t have at all. https://horseeden.com/horse.php?id=37912663 The black spots and stripes are so intense, they don’t look like sooty and/or red to me. Is sooty really causing all that intense black just on him out of the 3?

That's a type of Dun <3 rather beautiful if you ask me.

That's the homozygous dun pattern. Notice how the black is basically dun markings, just a bit extreme?

Thank y'all for the answers so far!! Why does homozygous dun only show up as black on him when it appears as normal red on the other two sooty red dun foals? Edited at May 26, 2024 02:15 AM by Cimarron Wind

I believe it is random! So not all DD foals will have the extreme dun, but all foals with that type of dun are DD. Theoretically if you were to reroll your other foals you would have a chance to get that same type on them as well, assuming they are not Dd! Hope this helps <3
