Lots of people putting profits before the welfare of the animals, especially because it's a touristy thing and there are big bucks to be made.
This, I feel I can't make a comment on this as I don't know the place it is nor where they keep the horses, like some are just kept in a stall. Well fed, vet care etc but are kept in a stall while not out doing carriages. It can be pretty dangerous too. I don't think it should be illegal but instead it be less reccomended. Sure if the horses do have everything a horse needs, no one is being harmed in the process there is no reason for it to be illegal Edited at November 10, 2021 02:42 PM by Kiwi Mountains

This. I worked at a trail riding place for 2 months (where I got my horse), and they made themselves out to be magical and wonderful. They were abusers. Got Maple (my horse) and he had an extremely high chance of dying. All the horses were overworked and starving, bur Maple was being singled out in the abuse. . I'd suggest working/getting inside information on how the horses are treated, provide evidence that it increases tourism/business for other local businesses, and that it is multiple families livelihood

i agree with the above posts, the carriage industry can be pretty shitty. although, maybe where you live, the people have common sense. i agree with lucky, getting evidence of the fact that they have good living conditions for the horses could possibly help convince the council people or whatever to overturn the ban or possibly suggest that they require liscensing and proof of proper care in order to run their buisness Edited at November 10, 2021 08:49 PM by Savannah Stables

I know where I used to live around Christmas time they would do horse drawn carriage rides in the park behind the neighborhood I lived in. People loved it. The owners of the horses if the weather was really bad (heavy snow or freezing rain) or the temp was under like 15 degrees (it may have been 20 I don't remember the exact degree) they would cancel carriage rides for safety reasons. The carriage horses were very well cared for, and always given the right of way on the roads to and from the park, and on the road to the carriage stand. The parking lot that filled in as the carriage stand had a nice heated area for the horses and drivers to get warm again, and no horse went out more than once an hour. The carriage ride was about 30 to 45 minutes, so once the horse was finished with the first round it would have an hour rest before the next go round. The carriage horse issue in NYC and even in New Orleans is rather bad in the summer times due to the heat. I'm not sure how things are in those cities in the winter time. But the horses usually are over worked and very dehydrated in the summers from what I've seen the few times I've been in those cities in the summer time. Rule of thumb if its to hot or cold for you its way to hot or cold for any animal as well.

I can assure you guys that Cincinnati requires that all carrige ride horses are vet checked and approved for work. They also have strict regulations that the owners must abide by in order to have a license. * Good news! The ban is not happening, it was voted against. It was 4-5 so it was a very close one! I hope to enjoy a carriage ride this holiday season (:

They already require a license to be renewed yearly in order to obtain that they must show proof of proper care and must be seen by a vet Savannah Stables said: i agree with the above posts, the carriage industry can be pretty shitty. although, maybe where you live, the people have common sense. i agree with lucky, getting evidence of the fact that they have good living conditions for the horses could possibly help convince the council people or whatever to overturn the ban or possibly suggest that they require liscensing and proof of proper care in order to run their buisness
