I am using the same browser and device I have been for the past 2 years: Chrome on an MSI gaming laptop. Last night it updated and suddenly all this smart punctuation is appearing in random places. I've collected screenshots from across my accounts. I have already tried restarting my laptop, clearing my history/cache and resetting my palette. even though MSI is not an apple product I checked my settings for the option to turn it off and it is not there. I've also tried troubleshooting it as a device problem but supposedly everything is normal on my end. My samsung phone (using chrome as well) has no problems.

All other games and websites I have visited appear normal. It's just HEE, WP and DT.

Update: I have noticed that on pages that don'r refresh the whole page it, it goes away. For example, on the quest page it will appear like this:

than I will skip a quest, or get a new one and the page will immediatly look normal. As soon as I refresh the whole page, all the weird symbols are back. The same happens with explore.

It looks wonky until I hit the horseshoe button for the first time and than the tiny green explore box appears normal.

Unfortunately this is not a game bug.

It appears to be a problem on your device or your browser.... maybe caused by that last update.

You can try and reset the update and/ or use another browser

None of those has worked and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled chrome. According to my session with the msi help center, it is something in these 3 specific games html coding. I'm not a big coder so what it is, I don't know.

I've been doing a little research on it between work and college. Turns out they are utf-8 encoded characters. I have added a chrome extension to translate them (because apparently thats a thing) but it's not a permanent fix apparently.
