Leah. Was a 18yr old Arabian Appaloosa. Feisty but loving. I was taught how to ride by my brother. She was a good four legged teacher as well. Unfortunately she passed due to colic. |

My first horse, Chance, a 14.3hh chestnut SHxQH mare. She was a gem to handle, but a cranky old bag under saddle. She had a concrete mindset and wouldn't do anything she didn't want to do. No vices, slow and ploddy, great for a first horse.
My second horse, Chico, a 15.1hh black Standardbred gelding - for all the wrong reasons. He developed a rearing habit after a hoof abscess one winter (horse was in pain, horse reared, rider got off), it became so bad he would rear up/down as soon as you asked him to do something he didn't want to do, I rehomed him as I am a nervous rider and my husband is a novice and his habit was becoming dangerous.
Don is a 15hh bay Standardbred gelding, we bought him as a confidence builder, he is the best $700 we have ever spent on a horse, in fact he is my favorite big horse that we have here, shhhh don't tell Toby!
And little Summer, a chestnut pinto Miniature Pony. I bought her mum in foal and she was born on my mother in laws property. She is only about 35 inches tall, and has just turned 4, she is due to have her first foal in October ^_^ she is honestly the sweetest little pony I have ever had the pleasure of owning <3 |

Chief. He has been my best friend and constant companion for six going on seven years now. He is a gorgerous red dun who we only bought for $400. Chief was a total brat at first, (I later found out he was a halter & western pleasure horse) but I found out he liked to run barrels and this horse and I would take off for hours on rides on trails leading into the mountains. Or I would sit in his stall with him and read, eat with him or even have sleepovers with him. I still do often. When I went away from home to work at a camp this horse went off his feed, pouted and was miserable until I would come home and love my boy. I would have panic attacks over a certain coworker and my wonderful bosses would show me pictures of him until I would calm down. They even went far enough to buy me a little stuffed horse that looks like Chief and they named him Chief Jr for when I would get anxious. Chief is known to help me through panic attacks, he will blow into my face until I blow into his and then he will nudge me until I get up. One hell of a horse. He has a forever home with me and even though he is getting up there in age he is my boy and he knows it. I even have his name tattooed on my arm, he is actually my best friend and partner in crime. I love that freaking horse. |

My cousin's black quarter horse/morab cross stallion Midnight Tar Pit. He was a great horse. A kid could handle him, and he's the one I learned to ride on when I was about 5 years old. Soundest horse I've ever ridden to. The only vice he had was he hated dogs. Whenever a dog got close to him he tried to kill it unless a child was on his back, then he'd just turn tail and walk the other direction from the dog. He was smart and funny. I know a lot of people will yell and say a 5 year old shouldn't ride a stallion, but my cousin kept him whole due to an undesended testicale.
The other horse I remember fondly is a grey mixed bred horse named Squire. He was damn near bomb proof, and the horse I learned to jump on. He was a good teacher as well. I miss him every day I drive past the barn he used to be at. |

Unfortunately selling him is our best option, I can only afford board for one horse. Also he does have potential to be an upper level dressage horse and at this point he is worth a bit of money. I do hope that I can keep tabs on him and perhaps buy him when he retires. |

Desi: Desi was the first "real" barrel horse I ever owned. She was 15.2hh and was a bay roan mare. We were always in the 4D at the jackpots, but at the time I didn't mind. I was just having fun and had no plans of making a career out of it.
Kota: Kota was the first horse I bought. She was also the first horse to give me a 1D winning run. She is 16.2hh and is a palomino. I ran her for 4 years before retiring her at the age of 10 to be a broodmare. Now, she's fat and happy in the pasture with this year's baby.
Dash: Dash is the first horse I trained on my own. He is 14.3hh and is a blue roan. Dash was always a pain in the butt and is always testing me and really makes me work to get a good run out of him, but when we are on the same page we make very nice runs.
These are some of the horse who are either currently in my barn or pasture or long gone that have stood out to me. Of course all my other guys stand out, but not as much as these guys. These guys are the horse that taught me everything I know. |
