My experience is that a ration balancer is meant to be more of a supplement to add to grain

What is the difference between an all-in-one type grain/supplement and a ration balancer?

A all-in-one is mainly used for Old horses, and young horses. Especially for the picky ones.. but it sometimes runs at higher prices. It is basically Hay, grain, and all the daily stuff horses all in one. I had a horse once that had it once and decided she would not eat any grain except that. type. It is a really good weight gainer, that is what it is really made for,

A ration balancer has more vitamins, minerals, supplements etc.
(From what i understand at least) and is used for like racehorses and horses that work a lot and need the extra stuff. And i think some are made to add to normal grain as well.

Dumor brand of food is really good too. I prefer the equistages since I have horses at different age groups but the maintenance would probably be great for your boy.

Every race horse ive ever seen or worked with on breeding and training farms has always been on high protein, high fat grains. An all in one grain contains everything needed for almost every horse from young to old, and work level...

Exactly, they have that in there grain or alone, they most of the time mix it with high protein stuff and a bunch of other junk to keep them fat and healthy.

So if I were to feed the LMF SS, would I need to also feed some type of grain/supplement for adding on some weight?

Pretty much, and having worked in feed stores, every ration balancer ive seen has been meant to be used as a mix to grain to add extra vitamins and minerals. Some companies already do that though

It isn't NEEDED but it will help, some horses plain hate it if its it it is in it, but most horses won't even care. I wouldn't see how it would hurt, it can only really help.

Roman is a pig, I have no doubt that he won't inhale anything I give him LOL. But now I feel I'm more confused about what I should give him. >.< LOL!

Lol. You could start him out without the Supplement/Grain and see if there is any difference, then if it isn't helping add some Grain/supplement in it and it should work decent. Considering he isn't skin and bones, i would start him out with the feed and see how he does, but he is your boy, your choice =D lol

EDIT: or you could get some supplement and add it to the food he is getting now (I am guessing he is getting some LOL)
