I have a 12hh mare that now can't be in a lot of work due to leg injury in the past (shes a rescue..she was abused). I want to do show jumping, have fun competing etc or just have fun riding and progressing etc. Do i sell her and buy a horse i can do that with, loan her out and loan a horse to do that with, keep her and go to a riding school or just inhand show her?
Please help me :(

how about you do ground work with her and teach her tricks, or do a fun Western Parour with her? Iam not a fan of people getting rid of their horses just cause they cant do much anymore. In the end of the day they are animals and deserve to be respected. A Horse just like a dog should be for forever not being basicly tossed out cause they served their duties. There is so much you can still do with horses that have had injuries, they deserve just as much as any other horse to be treated like a Animal/Family Member and not be treated like Sport Equipment.

And iam not trying to be rude to you about this, iam sorry if it sounds this way, i just like people to really think.

If you do want to do showjumping then yes you will need another horse, however we can not really tell you on what you should do.
How much experience do you have with show jumping? if it is a little to non then yes go to a school first and learn it proper before you buy yourself a jumping horse and then ruin the horse by doing it wrong.
If you have alot of experience then maybe loan a horse that has the option to buy in the future, that way you can look if the horse is actually something for you or not.

Also, I read your other post about having to put down your 5 year old horse recently. Perhaps take this time with an extra stall in your barn to settle from that before you make decisions about buying another horse. <font class="mainlineblack">Give yourself time to recover from your loss or you may find yourself having trouble bonding with a new horse. You could also use this time to take some lessons in the different disciplines to find the one you have the most fun with/most aptitude for before you buy.

Thank you guys. I have being talking to my mum and i think we have decided i keep Mollie (12hh mare) and teach her tricks and have fun with her til obviously she passes away or retires and go to a riding school and get confidence jumping higher and then i will possibly only buy another horse when Mol passes :(
