Okay so, I ride for a Friesian breeder right? Well one my absolute favorite horses there is STILL pregnant and she was supposed to have her baby like a week ago but still hasnÂ’t so IÂ’ve just kind of decided that if she doesnÂ’t have it by Saturday which is when I go riding again IÂ’m giving her a maternity shoot because I got on her yesterday(donÂ’t attack me for riding a pregnant mare, I donÂ’t put a saddle on her, just ride bareback and donÂ’t jab my heels in her sides and I donÂ’t make her go faster than a trot for like 15 seconds if that) and I canÂ’t even sit where I should because sheÂ’s so big. But anyways, do any of you have any ideas of how to do this maternity shoot for this horse?

I find it very concerning that you ride (no matter if with or without saddle) a pregnant mare in her last 2-3 months, no horse should be riden after the 8th month of the pregnancy cause thats when the foals grow alot daily. The poor mare already has to carry the weight of the foal and then yours also and concentrate on her rider instead of concentrating on her foal. Especially if she is overdue she has to calm down and relax, with you riding her it could be you who keeps her from giving birth cause she cant calm down. Iam sorry but i find it very Irresponsable and i been breeding horses for more then 15 years.

Maternity shoots well just clean her up put her on a field and do some pictures, but do not stress her make her run around cause you want some moving pictures. If you are pregnant and overdue you wouldnt want to be stressed out or pushed to move would you?

I agree, you should not be riding a pregnant mare this close to her due date

It is frankly just irresponsible and dangerous to be riding a mare this far into her pregnancy. Whether that's with a saddle or without, it's not good for her or the foals health by any means. Having to carry the weight of the foal is already a burden to her but with you sitting atop her back? How would you feel if you were this heavily pregnant and past your due date, and someone throws a couple of sandbags over your shoulders for you to carry at a jog? You really shouldn't be riding her at all.

I agree with LRN and Amera. Not only is it dangerous for the mare and foal but you too.

Yeah, I am certainly worried for that mare. Considering you can't even sit where you should, that adds stress onto her. Let alone the fact that she is past due. She shouldn't be trotting either, especially with the rider bouncing around up there bareback.

If you can't ride well, find a trainer and use proper equipment. Riding a pregnant mare so far along is a definite nono. Please stop before you get hurt or hurt the mare or foal.

I completely agree with what y'all are saying, but where the heck was the breeder?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!! They should know better than to allow someone to ride a horse that close/OVERDUE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

This is what I'm wondering too... and because Friesians are usually quite valuable/expensive as well as difficult to breed/foal - the responsible breeders tend to be VERY cautious with the mares. Something isn't adding up.
