So I bought this horse about a month or so ago, and he did not come as advertised in many ways (height, demeanor, broke-ness). So now I'm starting to think that I may have also been lied to about his age. The coggins provided when I purchased him said he was 10 (as she told me), but I've looked at his teeth and done a lot of googling and I'm starting to think he may be older. Can anyone give me a guesstimate on how old they think he might be?

-I am taking him to the vet soon to get his teeth floated and I'll have him age him but I'm just curious in the moment as to what y'all think-

Thanks!

Hey King! Can you get a side view that shows the full corner incisors as well as a picture of the biting surfaces? :)

A side view would be helpful but I think he is older than 10

I would pin him 15-17. He's got some pretty good grooves in there. Sucks to have a horse so poorly misrepresented. :(

Yea I was gonna pin him at 15. I reached out to the previous owner to tell her how disappointed I was with him (after he almost flipped over while rearing on me) and she completely ignored my message. But the bill of sale states his age as 10 years old, if I can prove he's older I might be able to get the law involved :) I know that's petty but I only spent 2 YEARS saving up to purchase my own horse, and now that I have and gotten this I'm not gonna let it fly.

Here's just about every picture I could get. He wasn't super cooperative. But by my knowledge, this horse is at least 15...

Thank you for the pics!

The biting surfaces of the teeth are more accurate to guess off of then relative size and angle. This horse also has just the start of a Galvyne's groove on the corner incisors.

I would put this horse between 11-12.

You can look through a good write up of aging by teeth (as well as pictures!) here:

I spoke to my cousin who's a vet and says the groove is just starting so he's probably 10-11. I was thinking the other brown line down his corner incisors was the groove which would put him in the late teens. But I think Jellos and my cousin are right, the groove is the smaller of the two marks.

Thanks Jello! After getting the pics I sent them to my cousin who is a vet and she confirmed exactly what you said. I may have been lied to about how broke he was, but it seems as if his age was actually accurate.

Thank you everyone for your help and input on the matter. I really appreciate it!
