Hey all. So my riding life is kinda wonky. I've been riding at a specific stable in the summer for years (in a different state), but I don't have the time or the money to ride during the school year. There's a horse that I've been riding, and I really want to keep working with him, but I only get to see him in the summer. I want to train him, but I only get 4-6 weeks with him each year. I figure it's kinda a moot point, but I thought I'd ask you guys for advice. I have a very long list of things I need to teach him, so I'll post that later.

Talk to the horse's owners. It's incredibly rude to train a horse that is not yours without permission, and they may be able to help you with your time crunch.

FirstLight, it's a college stable. They know me and they let me train him. But it's a state that's 7 hrs away. Not very conducive to working with him.

As awful as it sounds, realistically you aren't going to be teaching him anything if you spend 4-6 weeks with him and then do nothing with him for the other 48 weeks of the year.

If this is a riding school horse then he isn't yours and you won't be able to train him unless you move nearer to the school and work with him every day.

Sorry but it sounds like the only answer would be to move nearer to the school or allocate more time and funds to travelling to him every month or so.

Yeah, I get that. I probably shouldn't even have posted this, not sure why I asked. Thanks anyway.

Isn't there somewhere a bit nearer where you could help out?

I've tried to talk to stables around me, but I have a very busy schedule, so it's kinda hard for me.
