Do you know how much a 1 day a week lease would cost?

If you have any questions on leases, feel free to mail me haha. I've went through tons of different lease horses with different rules/etc so I'm sure I could help :)

Its great that you are considering leasing! My first two ponies were long-term leases and my sister is currently leasing a horse.
Costs are going to vary widely based on your area, who you are leasing from/what barn you are leasing from, and what your lease contract entails. Before any money changes hands, you'll need to get your parents involved to make sure their budget/yours if you work will accomodate the lease.
If you are doing a very informal lease, there may be no contract at all, just a verbal agreement. If you get into a relationship with your neighbor, this is more likely to be the case.
But if you start to lease at a lesson or boarding barn, a contract is more likely. It will outline what each side is supposed to contribute in the relationship, mostly in regard to who pays for what. For example, they pay for board but you pay for vet and farrier. Other times, you would pay a lease fee every month that covers some portion of the horse's monthly costs. In my area, this is around 200-350 USD, but I have seen as high as 1500 USD. And remember: a free lease is never a "free" lease! In this case, YOU will take on all of the horse's costs in lieu of a lease fee.
A half-lease will be cheaper than a full lease. Depending upon your contract/agreement, you will get a certain number of days per week (i.e. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays) where you are free to come out and ride the horse. In my area, the $200-350 leases are typically half leases. In a full lease, you can ride whenever you want, but would pay more.
So look into what options you have available-- I think your neighbor is a great place to start, as it is informal enough that she may not charge your for the privilege of handling her horse. It would also be a good way to "get your feet wet" and take some baby steps into leasing.

Also, be brave when you're ready to ask about leasing and good luck!

Thank you! My neighbour has 2 other borders at her barn, and I've been riding this old mare whenever I want to help her get some exercise and get me more experience. She's 29 this year, so it's not like I can do very much riding, but I get to brush her, prepare and feed her, and take her off the property on walks. I'm also scheduled to start doing trail rides with the owner when things start to get sunny. This is great, but I think I'd like to just have more stuff to do, even if it's just chores. My neighbour asked if I wanted to ride her horse last year, and I said no, cause I didn't really have any experience and she's huge and grumpy. Now I think I know a bit more, so there's an opportunity. I have also helped out last summer when she was held up or the horses needed to be fed a bit later. I hunk this is a pretty great start though, but I'll try to be a bit braver.

I agree with Emerald. I've had leases where I pay half of the horse's board, and others where I literally completely work off the horses lease by working at the barn. It's really just something to discuss with whoever your leasing from and how many days you want.

Well I am 14 and I have a horse While my parents take care of the expenses I have to go to the stables I board my horse at every day after school and ride her make sure is getting the right care she needs. Owning a horse takes alot of time. and if you are still in school you have to sacerfice hanging out with friends but it is worth it.

The sad part is my dad's like, your paying for it, which makes sense but still sucks. I don't really hangout at home with my friend s except for 2, one who if I get a horse, will be over at my house taking care of it, riding it, and helping out doing whatever she can. We take our lessons together too. Pretty much the only reason why I can't get/lease a horse is because I don thavs the money, and even though my parents could afford it, would rather spend their money on vacations.
