Hello friends. I have my own thoughts on this but I figured I would gather opinions from other horsey people in case I'm jumping the gun.

My baby Rosco turned three in March. I've had him since he was about two months old and he's been fantastic. I was away from my herd for a couple months this summer and when I came back I saw that Rosco had an awesome growth spurt! Unfortunately I also noticed that his bum is looking strange after it. He's always been in great shape so I'm concerned this might need work done. He is supposed to start training this month and I want to make sure he is in good condition before he learns to ride. His movement doesn't seem to be effected by this new look but if he's developed something like hunters bump then I want it improved anyway.

Pictures were rushed so sorry they're not the best.

Definitely looks like hunter's bump somehow. If he's moving sound I would have a vet investigate him to see if he's not hurting somewhere and compensating with his back in order to appear "sound".
Editing to expand on this- Cliff throws his left hip out of alignment regularly because he has a bone chip in his right front ankle, which he compensates for in his left hind, so even though he moves sound (tracks up, even gaits) he "transports" that pain up into his hip so you can see a visible misalignment of it there that has to be chiropracted. So I wouldn't actually focus on the back as the problem so much as a symptom of something else.

Definitely have the vet and chiro out to see him and make sure that everything is fine structurally. However, if he's only 3 then they do look kind of wonky at that age. Usually its the yearlings or two year olds who look the most butt high and out of proportion, but 3 and 4 year old aren't exempt from it either. One question though, is this bump centered over his spine or is it off to one side? I can't tell from these pics.

It is centered on his spine. It goes down a little and then up into the bump. It's not just him being butt high, I've had a ton of babies and theyve never had nasty butts if they're just growing. I am supposed to have the vet out soon to geld another baby so I am going to have them see Rosco then too. I'm hoping I can just get him some chiro and go about my business but I'm not sure.

Agreeing with the hunter bump, i had a horse that looked like that. got him chiro'd and maybe 3 years later hes moving way better (was short strided, choppy, and stiff) and used a cirsingle (I hope i spelled that right.) on him for the first year and then rode him building his topline back. Also, you may get your water tested, a boarding barn i work at had a huge problem with somthing in the water, all the horses looked like shit no matter what you did, just a pro-caution. :D

It looks like something might be wrong with the lumbosacral joint... or he's growing croup high(but it looks real pointy to just be that as you say). Getting it checked is probs the best option if you're worried.

Kinda off topic but my cousin's 2-year-old boy named Rosco just died a few months ago because he broke his leg. It was just dangling so there was nothing that could be done to fix it. 😢
but yeah that looks like a hunter's bump.
