This is my guy's tail - never touched with the cheaper detanglers [i.e. show sheen, laser sheen, cowboy magic] - just bathed in cheap shampoo, a decent conditioner leave in, and a high quality detangler!

His mane when we bought him, about five years ago. It was not maintained in braids, or for growth. Was mostly just left loose and did its own thing. Still decently long, but definitely struggled with hair quality.

And now, about 5 years later, religiously braided and bagged. High quality detanglers, but I will go cheap on shampoo if I need to. I've always felt that the conditioner and leave ins are the more "important" products if you're going to splurge for something more expensive. His hair quality is amazing now, and the length speaks for itself. Body shine and body coat quality come from a high-quality, balanced diet, good forage, and a little bit of elbow grease during and after baths. I do not use any type of coat shine products on him unless it's a special occasion or photoshoot. This shine is literally just from having a clean coat, and being freshly washed!

If you're specifically looking to detangle/keep detangled manes and tails, I love WD-40. Works like a charm even on my Clydesdale girl who gets witches knots overnight. It's super good for slicking up knotted messes and making it possible to pull them apart. Otherwise for shiny coats I add canola oil to the feed and that really helps coat quality.

Hell yeah, it's the only way I can detangle those bad knots without grabbing the scissors or a clipper. My hands are cut up by the end but it's worth it!

I'd still recommend Healthy Hair Care. The man who started and owns the company shows cutting horses and has been a long time customer at the barn I work for. Not only is he a great guy but he knows his products and puts so so so much care into how they are made and the ingredients used. Not trying to be biased, I mean, even we have tried other products throughout the years but Healthy Hair Care remains superior in our book. Plus, the moisturizer is extremely helpful when trying to grow manes out again!

I just wanted to say that I caved and had someone bring some out to me from my hometown. I'm so happy to have it again, I couldn't live with out it!
