I am building my showstring of geldings and I am curious, do you prefer showing AD or SD? Drop a comment below explaining why. Total Votes: 33

I personally show both AD and SD but I find SD easier, its a lot quicker wether or not theyre ready to show. AD on the other hand takes a little longer but theres more possibilities. When SD isnt ready to show in that specific discipline they just arent ready and you need to wait another week or more. With AD they may be ready in multiple disciplines at once, or, if they arent ready in one they may be ready in another. Theyre also GREAT for special shows. They can be entered in multiple if theyre ready rather than just 1 like SD horses. .

AD. Takes a little longer, but can be green in different disciplines over the course of a couple of weeks. Also good for special shows, as mentioned. Also don't hit their level 10 as quickly, so longer show life. |

Ditto what Savy and WIllow said. SD is so much easier (that's what I voted for), but I make more off the AD show horses. If I get an AD horse with just the right rating & training combo, they will almost always be in the money in one discipline or another. It's definitely harder to keep up on AD though because I have to closely watch the show history in all three disciplines to avoid missing an opportunity to be in the green. No BM for those horses; it's tedious hand showing only! This gelding is a good example of why I continue to bother with AD horses. 700k profit over his show career! Both. I have a sets of geldings, both AD and SD, that I have assigned to the BM. That way usually at least someone is earning money at any given point.
. If I were hand showing, I'd probably be strictly SD though. |

AD all the way! Never could get into SD (or geldings for that matter), but with AD I found a routine that works for me and my girls have been raking in money for me ever since. I tried to train up one(1)SD boy just because he is WSA-WC, but my BM would always hire him a SD rider, who then hijacked some of my AD mares. That made me go feral and I switched him to AD as well, saying 'adieu' to SD forever - and the nuisance it caused me in such a short time. |
