I only just came across this post and wanted to share a story..
(especially since it is almost pride month)
I met my wife on my college campus years ago. I took one look at her and thought "ew, so weird"
She then showed up at my dorm door in the cutest outfit, holding a rose. She pratically threw the rose at me, and literally ran away. I was suddenly in love.
We went to a christian college and the community guidelines were very clear that no person attending was allowed in same-sex relationships. We had to hide our love for so long. Our closest friends knew, but even then, they went behind our backs and informed our RD. We were threatened with expulsion multiple times, thankfully, they could never prove anything.
We both graduated with bachelor's degrees in equine science and got married less then 6 months after LOL.
This is why these conversations are so important. Nobody should ever be made to feel like they have to hide who they are or who they love. Love, romance (or lack thereof), and identity is such a huge part of the human experience. Finding communities where you can relate and safely share stories and laughter with others who may have gone through similar things as you. This is ESPECIALLY true for people going through the thick of it as we write these comments.
Somebody could be lurking these forums right now, unsure and afraid of what the real-world will think of or do to them if they were to ever let themselves enjoy simply who they are. For those people, hi.. I see you. Personally, my dm's are ALWAYS open to anybody who needs support, love, or just wants to share stories, experiences, etc. This is what makes us human <3 |

@The Coven That first part is so cute omg ! Snitching to the RD is awful, christian college won over friendship apparently. :( I'm so glad things worked out for you two in the end despite it all !! |

I am happy to hear that your relationship prevailed over the obstacles. Happy (early) pride to you and your wife! Having a community is so important, whether it's online or in-person. I didn't realize how impactful being around welcoming and supportive people is. It's so much different than coming from a neutral place or somewhere where people didn't acknowledge queerness. Thankfully I didn't experience hostility, but there was always a unspoken wish for me to not be a lesbian. I thought it didn't affect me, but it absolutely did. Moving away and going to a very queer friendly college absolutely opened my eyes to what it feels like to be accepted, welcomed, and allowed me to not feel different for 4 years. I'm glad to see HEE show up for those who are seeking community. |

This! Having a community that understands and embraces queerness is so beneficial and it really makes you genuinely happier and able to enjoy your life better ^^ |
