I'm trying to write this new character of mine, and I'm really enjoying getting into her personality fully. I'm stuck on one thing, though: dialogue. I made the terrible decision to make her Virginian (please note: I've never been there/met someone from there/read a book set there) and I'm struggling to create realistic dialogue without overdoing the slang. Are there any Southerners who might be able to help me with commonly-used slang that is actually used regularly?

I'm Virginian! Is it set in northern virginia or in the rest of virginia? People talk very differently depending on if they're from the north or not.

She's from Richmond - which I'm guessing would be North Virginia?
