To my own surprise I finished that quest yesterday. With two of my own mushroom captures no less. What I will be skipping is the ISH mushroom quest though, since I can't be bothered with ISH.

Just FYI the name search will show anything with sbsb in the name regardless of capitalization so you will have to double check they're homozygous

You can do it with any genes, I do it all the time for quests. Just make sure you tick 'gene tested' further down so you know they actually are SbSb or whatever you need

Covetta - Unfortunately I would prefer to stick to my branding method! I would recommend just picking another horse of lesser value that looks similar if you're uncomfortable with private saling a horse of value. Most people do capture new horses or buy wilds from others for imports so far.

Could you possibly just do an adopt for me to put on my front page to represent my horse? Rather then an actual adopt that can be bred etc? I'd pay more of course I just need something someone can click on to get to my main breeders!
