Sage chuckled softly and nodded his head in response to her comment about Anya. "I know, she's almost as stubborn as I am sometimes," he snorted, though it was in a fond tone of voice. "I'll make sure she gets there," he mused, nodding slightly. She did have to go....but ultimately he knew it would be her decision when to do so. When Mari handed him the tea he gave her a sort of thankful smile, sipping at it thoughtfully and then wrapping his hands around the warm mug, watching the liquid inside of it shift as he set it down. 'i know," he murmured. He took a sort of deep breath, hugging it out in a sigh. "I just...I wonder how many of them there are out there," he murmured after a moment. "How many were unwanted and dropped off somewhere to starve to death or freeze or be eaten by wild animals? Or killed before they were even born," he sort of thought out loud, taking his fingers through his hair after a moment. He obviously didn't know them, and he didn't love them persay, but....he was still their father, and there was still part of him that wanted to make sure they were cared for. And that had only happened to one, and not by choice. He knew there were more....how could there not be, after so many years?

The woman gave a soft sight chuckle in response to his comment. "She'll thank you for it later," she chuckled softly to him before gently patting his chest gently. She felt a soft hum escape her at his worry, then sort of shook her head at him, and moved to softly peck his forehead. She did feel bad for him.... And now that he'd mentioned it, she was wondering too. Just how many children were there? She then sighed and shook her hear. "You can't be thinking like that," she whispered softly. She did feel bad... he'd had the opportunity to look after one of those children, and really she was the reason he sent him away. "If they're anything like you they'll be... surviving," she then added in a more soft tone.

Sage had hummed softly in response to her ent about Mari, nodding slowly. There was some truth to her words, he knew that...but he also knew pushing the girl too far too fast would only make things worse. They didn't have much time though, so it did worry him. He offered her a small smile at her peck and chuckled, though it wasn't really a happy one. "I try not to," he admitted. Though, at her next comment he let out a soft breath, taking another sip of the tea. "I don't know that that's any better," he noted quietly, before huffing out a breath and slouching down into his chair with a groan. "Don't ever tell the doctor I'm becoming the same grumpy old man he is," he grumbled after a moment or so.

The woman pinched her brows together before letting out a soft breath. She wandered over and gently ran a hand though his hair. "Or maybe someone else picked them up. Maybe they've got a nice little family around them," she murmured softly. She then ran her hands softly through his hair. "You did it for Atticus. He couldn't have a better life if he tried," she murmured quiely. "If there are more children, then maybe they've ended up somewhere nice too," she murmured. It wasn't likely... but she did hope it would put his mind at ease, just a little. His next comment, though, she felt a little chuckle escape her, and she just sort of moved to peck the top of his head again. "Like father like son," she mused softly. "You're getting grumpy but you're certainly not that old," she teased softly.

Sage had sighed when Mari mentioned that the kids may have been safe....it was highly unlikely, andbthey both knew it. No, most of them would have died, and if they were still alive their lives would end soon one way or the other. "Maybe," he murmured, though it was rather doubtfully. It wouldn't do them much good to discuss the topic though, so he moved his thoughts on after a moment, leaning into Maris hands slightly, as her nails running along his scalp felt nice, as they always did. He hummed with a sort of amusement when she talked about the doctor and shrugged slightly. "I feel old," he snorted, shaking his head slightly, though more in amusement than anything.

The woman gave a soft sigh at his short comment, though after a moment she sort of leaned over him and ran her hands gently down his chest. She knew he didn't believe her... she didn't much believe it either, but in truth she was just trying to make him feel better about it. Any children that were out there had likely died before they'd even turned one... and she didn't want to think about it. She didn't want Sage to think it was his fault wither. The people in the tavern knew the risks... and they normally had quite a few children because of it. Well, they had to have lots of kids, since most of them would inevitably die in the first few years of life. She did let out an amused chuckle at his next comment, though. "Well, if it makes you feel better at all, I don't think you feel old," she mused as she patted his torso playfully. "And as grumpy as you are, you don't look all that old," she teased softly.

Sage had sort of just moved on from the conversation from the tavern after a moment, not really wanting that to be the way his mind worked today. Or any day really...those thoughts were never really welcome, to say the least. At Maris comments, he sort of chuckled and ripped his head up to peer up at her, a grin forming on his face. "I'm going to have to take that and roll with it," he mused lightly. "Good, I wouldn't want to turn as grey as the doctor this early in life, I'd never hear the end of it," he joked lightly.

The woman sort of turned to peck the top of his head in amusement. "If you turned as grey as the doctor at all I'd be concerned," she teased. She patted his chest and slipped away to grab his now empty mug. "I reckon he's always been grey, you know," she mused, a sort of laugh escaping her. She then wandered back over to him and offered him her hands. "In truth, I'm fairly happy I get to see you get old and grumpy," she mused playfully to him. It was still so early in the morning, and really it'd just started getting light out.

Sage couldn't help but laugh in response to the girls comment anout him turning grey as the doctor, and hummed lightly in agreement when she said she thought he'd always been grey. "He's been stark white for as long as I've known him," he mused lightly. Though, at her next comment he smiled up at her, letting her take the cup from him. "I'm glad to grow old and grey with you," he murmured softly, reaching for her hand and squeezing it gently.

The woman gave a small chuckle to him before rolling her eyes. "I can't imagine him ever being young you know," she added with a bit of a laugh. She then rolled her eyes at his next comment before gently squeezing his hand back to him. "Sage that was so cheesy," she chided in an amused manner. "But I get the point," she then added. She then looked out the window, the sun slowly rising. "You staying here today or going out?" She asked curiously.
