Sage cocked his head slightly when she mentioned that the guy she'd been betrothed to was ugly, laughing along. "Really," he mused. "Who was it anyway," he asked. He hadn't ever actually...talked about it with her, he didn't think. Not about the specifics. He nodded with a grin at her peck, giving her a wink in response. "Anything for you, my lady," he chirped, a little tease slipping into his words.

Elara put a finger to her chin, trying to remember who it was for a moment before her eyes lit up, recalling the prince's name. "It was the Prince of Mercia, he was an incest, there are rumors of his parents being first cousins." She sighed, dragging a hand down her face. "My parents were. . . not the best at picking good matches of people." She muttered, dissapointment in her eyes at the memory.

Sage wrinkled his nose slightly as she remembered who it was. "Him," he snorted, trying to picture Elara matched with the guy. He'd stolen from him before, and actually he'd assassinated people in his castle too, so he knew who the prince was. And he was definitely ugly, as she'd stated. "Yeah, I can't picture you marrying the ogre," he snickered, vaguely amused by the thought. He winced slightly when she mentioned her parents not being good at picking out matches, and nodded in agreement. "I'll say not," he mused. "They didn't seem to be very good at quite a few things," he added.

"Don't even start," She sighed, draping a hand over her eyes before dragging it down her face. Elara snorted at his next comment, nodding. "Exactly. They could've atleast picked somebody who looked good," The woman noted, laughing at his muse. "Let me tell you, match making wasn't the only thing they were bad at. Council decisions, deployments, punishments, conviction, all sorts of things--the list goes on."

Sage just chuckled softly as she flopped her arm over her face, watching her with a fond amusement he made no movement to hide. He liked her.....a lot.....and he wasn't afraid to show it. Though, at her next comments about how her family wasn't very good at much, he grunted in agreement. "I've been around often enough to realize that," he mused. "Gotten in and out of there more times than I can count," he added with a chuckle. "And then you even went and hired me," he added, giving her a teasing nudge with his elbow.

She nodded, grinning along at the memory. "Mhm, you walked in there and stayed near the back, tried to make yourself somewhat invisible---or you just really didn't want to be there, or maybe you did, I couldn't tell. But I remember, I walked up and grabbed your chin and made you look me in the eye," Elara started, doing exactly what she did then, tilting his face up. "And in my opinion, I feel like I told you off pretty good, you stayed, and that was probably the best thing you could've done." The woman teased, dropping her hand as she leaned against him. "We both saved eachother in some way, I got you paid good, and you kept me from losing my sanity---great payout both ways."

Sage nodded along with a grin of his own as he recalled the memory of first appearing like that. "I was there out of necessity," he noted simply. "It was a job...one that I thought would probably be permanent, and nearby Liz," he added, glancing over at the girl, who had drifted off on her pile of blankets near the fireplace. "Moving all over the country, knowing she was in a place that cheated and lied....I really didn't like it." When she tilted his head up, he laughed, moving to lean forward and peck her lips lightly. "Mhmm ...and I can admit I like it much more now than I did at the time," he teased her lightly. At her next comment though, he let out a content sigh, wrapping his arm around her as she leaned against him. "It certainly worked out well in the end," he agreed softly, peering around the cabin happily.

She grinned, a look growing in her eyes. "Maybe i'll start doing it, then," Elara mused, settling into him more when he wrapped his arm around her. "It sure did.....it sure did."

Sage chuckled in response to her comment about doing it more often, humming in fake thought. "I suppose I could allow that," he noted after a moment or so. Of course, they both knew full well he'd enjoy it each time. He just nodded along as she agreed to his last comment, faint smile lingering on his face. "It seems so odd," he admitted. "I mean, I thought you were a prick and I would hate working with you. Now look at us," he added lightly.

"I thought you were a man who was full over his head, and now look at us." She noted, sighing softly as she let out a breath, pecking his cheek. "I'm glad I didn't give up on you,'
