Anya gave him a playful glare, "Sage, please, don't be like that." She grumbled before looking down at herself. She let out a sigh as she brushed off her skirt and tried to wipe the dirt off her face, though it only spreaded. "Got it?" She asked as she started to get up.

He shrugged. "Fine with me, but everything I said was true," he chuckled. He tossed her a tree branch and grinned. "Use this to wipe the sand off. It won't spread it."

Anya gave him a look before getting the rest of the mud off her face. She let her hair down, running her fingers to make it look slightly less frazzled before putting it back up. "I'm sure. Wouldn't want to go back looking homeless." She grumbled quietly. She gave him a small smile, "Thanks." She murmured, "you going back to the tavern?"

He shrugged, not used to getting thanked and then nodded. "Yeah, unfortunately." He made a face. "It'll be relatively busy now that everyones hang ivera are done and they don't know what to do with themselves." He stood up and offered her a hand. "I'll walk back with ya."

Anya reluctantly took his hand and pulled herself up. The girl wrinkled her nose, "So... they've just recovered from hangovers and are back to drinking?" She asked with a raised brow. She started waddling along the path. "Why do you still work there - Could you not work fields or something? I know the castle is always looking for groundsmen." She shrugged.

He grunted and shrugged. "I dunno, people are stupid." He considered that, and then sighed. "Usually the castle uses people a few ranks up, and it's kinda far from home. The tavern is close to Lizzie."

Anya never really considered the lower ranking workers of the castle. Or any of lower ranksreally. The only one of the lower ranking people who played a little of a role in her life was Sage. Though, she payed enough to notice Sage was considerably scruffier than any of them. "I didn't realise there was a difference between the lower ranks," she shrugged. "You wouldn't fit in anyway. You'd probably be asked to leave when the saw you." She noted with a chuckle.

He snickered and nodded. "I don't think I'd last long before whacking someone with a shovel," he chuckled, only half joking. Then he shrugged. "Even other lower ranks hate us," he said, meaning his own rank. "Everyone low wants to be higher than someone else. They focus on that instead of who's higher than them "

The girl shook her head, "That's understandable I suppose." The girl murmured, "But it's so hard to move up in society. If you're not born into it, it's almost impossible to get anywhere... I'm quite lucky to be where I am." Anya shrugged. She meant it. If she had been born into a lower class, the chances were she would be either dead or doing god knows what with whoever. "It seems silly to hate people in the same boat as you though."
| |
Sage shrugged with a nod. "A lot of things people do seem silly when you think about it." He glanced over at her. "You got lucky, I suppose. But honestly, I'm satisfied with where I'm at most of the time, too. Sure, it's hard, but I'm free out here. For instance, I don't have to dress up and go to random parties all the time." He nudged her with his elbow gently and grinned when he said the last part, knowing she didn't exactly enjoy those parties either.
