Bird - have you looked on Facebook for people rehoming cats/animals in your area?

It's just a question to ask, is all. It's not a requirement by any means. The person's response can heavily indicate whether or not they are a mill, and your reasoning is perfectly reasonable. I doubt it'd raise red flags like someone who just says "no" would say.

Bird - My mother admired Siamese cats for years. Went to every cat show in the 5 state area. Talked to many breeders at the shows and visited their homes, before deciding on a kitten. Might want to do the same for whatever breed interests you.

that you can, although I would much prefer going to see the place as there’s a lot you CAN’T see via a FaceTime and a lot more you can see being their in person :) I personally wouldn’t buy an animal off someone who I believe I couldn’t go to the property and see the place. Whatever they could do at their property they can still do at the meeting point when giving the animal to you.

Similarly, yes: Sketti's foster parent was allowed to meet me beforehand and check my home to make sure I was telling the truth on my application. :)

And that is your right. Having worked at shelters, and even having adopted Sketti from one, they asked me several times if I wanted to check and clear his home of kitten mill status. So there are, indeed, some people out there who allow such things. At the very least, a breeder will still allow you to meet the parents.

That’s very true although if someone/people are selling animals the buyer should be allowed to check where they are living, their conditions and their parents. Just like some sellers would like to view where their animal is going to make sure it’s going to a good home!

Mills are awful but I care about my safety and my animals safety. I don't want someone random person on my property.

True, but a dedicated breeder who is trying to help negate kitten mills being so prominent is more likely to allow you to check around for signs of a mill, as they're also grossed out by them.

Stray and colony kitties adopted off the streets are often inbred too, unfortunately. There are SO many feral cats in the world, and their colonies are so closely knit to keep outsiders out, that they become inbred. I don't think there is much avoiding it, but purebreds can have pedigrees presented.

I wouldn't mind adopting a shelter cat, but when I have looked not many will get along with a dog. Each person is in a different situation which is why I am looking into a purebred.

It is not all glitter and rainbows with every shelter, unfortunately. I cycled through a few before deciding on one to work at because some are very dishonest.

It also depends on the breed. Most purebreeding has inbreeding at some point in the line and it predisposes some breeds to health conditions. If you are set on it, then do research into breeds without as many issues
Hummingbird Meadows
01:56:24 Bird
I am a little paranoid though because I adopted a shelter cat and he ended up having all these health issues. I only had him a year. That's not to say that a pure bred won't have health issues, but if you go to a good breeder they probably won't.
RusticRabbit
01:54:56
I don't think that's valid LOL, why does it matter what they did before? Like if you are in an area without overpopulation I can understand that. Those places do exist. But in areas where they are euthanizing countless cats and kittens? I think that's a very selfish viewpoint in that situation (which is most places)

Yes, it takes a lot of legwork and knowledge to verify if a breeder is good or not. I almost always recommend adopting because you can find what you want and it's always a net good. One of my kitties is a rescue from an accidental pregnancy and she looked just like a ragdoll but she wasn't. In terms of aesthetics, you can find most (but not all) colors in shelters. I have done some kitten fostering and also done a lot of volunteer work in shelters.

eh some people just dont want a shelter animal with an unknown background and that is totally ok and valid

Sage chuckled and shrugged. "I think two hours of sleep if just a few under the nine hour limit were supposed to be getting," he hummed in a rather amused sort of voice. Then he shook his head. "No...it's just dad and I, and I don't like him at all. He's been the worst of my issues for years." He shrugged slightly. "The only times I think about him is if I think about how glad I am to get away from him. Or he shows up in a nightmare or something, but I can usually ignore that."

Claudia put on a weak smile, she knew Sage disliked his father...like a lot, and she couldn't blame him for that. She reached for his hand, putting her fingers so they were linked with his, "Shall we go down to dinner? Mr.Lopex has yet another 'Suprise' for us. I swear Sage, he is spoiling us, even if he doesn't notice." Claudia laughed, slowly standing up from the bed. She looked down at Sage fondly, she was glad they could talk about things, like their families for example...neither of them was great, maybe even horrible, but at least they could talk to each other openly about it.

Sage smiled and laced his fingers through the girls happily nodding at the thought of another good meal. If this all worked out, he'd never be hungry again...and it seemed like such a foreign thing to him. "let's go," he hummed with a nod. Then he stood up with a chuckle and walked next to the girl as they exited their room. "He does seem to like you a lot," he hummed. He wondered what he thought of him...he hadn't pulled the whole 'hurt her and I'll hurt you' thing...but then again, did he know they were a couple? He wasn't sure...and he supposed he'd just have to live with whatever the man was like.

Claudia smiled, nodding and walking down the stairs with Sage, she sighed contently. "Let's go find a seat, Mr.Lopex should be able to find us." Claudia chuckled and sat down after a while of searching for a spot, it was sure packed tonight. "I forgot it was Wednesday, that's why so many people are here, no wonder why Mr.Lopex will quote unquote, busy.". This was pretty much the owner's chill night, he always got everybody's orders but after 9 PM he was not working anymore, it was fun for the rest of the night. Dances, hanging out, maybe some drinks, not enough to get fully drunk, just a small bit giddy.

Sage smiled and nodded, following Claudia around until they found a nice small booth just big enough for the two of them to sit next to each other. He chuckled and nodded. "He just likes to make sure everyone's happy I think," he hummed. He was a very nice guy...and seemed almost like a father figure for Claudia. He did wonder what the guy thought of him...he knew he didn't look exactly like perfect boyfriend material. But the man seemed nice enough to him, so he must not hate him at least. He was looking forward to a good meal and then having some fun with Claudia though ...whatever kind of fun that came about. Though, if they were going to have a fun night, he would probably be a bit giddy by the end of the night. Not drunk at all....he was wary of that because of his father. But he could have some fun. It did help him sleep better anyway, with less nightmares. Although...cuddling up with Claudia was nice. Maybe that would help too, if she was alright with cuddling and sleeping together. He figured she'd be fine with it, though one could never really be certain.

"Yeah..." Claudia hushed a bit when she felt and knew what Sage was wondering, "Sage, I don't think he would have offered you the job if he didn't like you. Not to mention he gave you a good-paying job, and he doesn't just give those out to anyone. Im, sure he likes you.". Claudia gave Sage a smile before blushing a bit at his next thought, she shouldn't really be blushing, after all, they already shared a bed, and it wouldn't be too different...She chuckled and glanced at Sage. "You know, I shouldn't need to see what you feeling and thinking. You could just...tell me." Claudia sighed, putting her head back.

Sage chuckled and grinned sheepishly over at the girl. "I sometimes forget you can do that," he admitted, rather amused. He could feel a light blush spreading across his face. He'd have to make a mental note that he could be more forward with the girl, since she could already tell what he was thinking. Then he smiled at the girl and nodded, knowing her reasoning was valid...the man wouldn't be treating him so good if he didn't like him. Then again, they hadn't actually really met or talked, but whatever. He leaned over to peck the girl on the cheek and giggled. "For now, I feel hungry, so let's eat," he laughed, more than happy to start on the appetizers that were on the table.

Claudia chuckled, a light blush crossing her face as she took a piece of bread from the appetizer platter on their table. Looking over at Sage she came upon his eyes...his handsome amber eyes. They practically shown, complimenting his black hair. Claudia had a sudden urge to his him...she looked away though, her blush coming darker, and she turned so that she had not to need to look at him. But the thing was...Claudia couldn't really help it, she kept glancing back at her boyfriend and smiling, twiddling with her long fingers. Finally, she let out a sigh and turned to Sage, giving him a smile.

Sage could feel the girl fidgeting beside him as they nibbled at the appetizers. He was fine with it, but he did start to wonder if something was wrong. Though, when he looked over at her she was smiling, and he was, admittedly, a bit confused. He smiled over at the girl and chuckled. "You know, you can talk to me too. I can't tell what you're feeling," he hummed in a somewhat amused tone of voice. He was curious as to what the girl was thinking, he really was.

Claudia nodded, "I suppose...I am just dealing with a lot of feelings, very...strong feelings.". She looked down, a bit embarrassed. Claudia's attention focused on a clear of a throat, she looked up, seeing Mr.Lopex, "Your food is ready.". He set down two platters of food, just a bit smaller than the night they last came. She smiled when Mr.Lopex lifted the tops to them, truffles, cooked mushrooms, potatoes, and a medium-sized steak. "This is wonderful, thank you so much again, we really appreciate it.", "Anything for my new worker or workers.". He nodded toward Sage and herself, "Enjoy you two.".
