Sage felt his grin widen when she told him he was ridiculous. The comment wasn't far fetched, after all. He knew she was joking, but he definitely wasn't your average thinking guy. It was a little amusing, if he was being totally honest. But he was just glad to make her laugh. Her smile light things up like nothing else. He just....felt better about himself knowing he was the reason for her laughter. For her happiness. He hummed softly in agreement to her power comment, offering her a small smile in return. Neither of them were perfect ...they knew that. They were aware of their flaws and strengths ....things around them that could cause issues. But they were willing to deal with anything the world threw at them together, and that was really all that mattered. That was all he cared about. Really, he just wanted them to be able to be happy. Maybe finally he could have a family, even if it was just the two of them. They'd talked about kids briefly, but the concensus was to wait until things were more under control. It would be a little chaotic, since they were so far away from any sort of hospital, and he was a wanted criminal. But that would be far in their future, if it happened at all. For now, he was just glad for what they had.

Sage's words hung in the air for a moment, and Jora could feel a warmth stir inside of her at the sound of Sage's laughter. She called Jora ridiculous, but she couldn't help it—she liked it. Sage always had a way of making everything feel lighter, even the most absurd things. And to Jora, that meant everything. She caught the flicker of Sage's smile, her eyes sparkling, and Jora's heart gave a little leap. There was something about Sage's happiness that made her feel... like she mattered. Like maybe, just maybe, she wasn't as messed up as she often thought. Maybe, for once, she was doing something right. All she wanted was to be the reason behind Sage's smile, to be the one who made Sage feel safe, cherished, loved. Sage's mention of power, the subtle hum of agreement between them—it was a simple thing, but it felt real. Both of them knew they weren’t perfect, and that was okay. They could face anything together. Jora could feel it in her bones. She didn’t need perfection. She didn’t need a fairy tale. What she needed was this—Sage. She thought about the future sometimes, the idea of a family, but it felt so distant, like something out of reach. They had talked about kids, yeah, but that was for later, much later. A world where she wasn’t running from her past, where they didn’t have to worry about every little detail. But that could wait. For now, she was content to just be here, in this moment with Sage. That was enough for her. What mattered most was right now. Right here. With Sage. And that was the future she was fighting for.

Sage stood up after a moment or so with a grunt, moving to grab his hair tie back from her, though he didn't put his hair back up yet. He'd let it stay loose for a little while, get used to it. Though, he hummed lightly after a moment, looking around the island around them."why don't we take a looka round," he suggested. It was nothing super important...they weren't looking for anything specific, it wasn't work. Nothing that needed to happen. It was just ....wandering around, in nature. It was enjoyable. And he was excited to just go look around. Get used to their new home. See what was around. And he wanted her with him while he did that. He wanted to do things together, now that they were here. They were partners, which meant he wanted to experience their new home for the first time with her. She was important to him. He sort of moved to take her hand and wander down towards the trees on the end of the property, eager to look around.

Jora blinked, surprised but pleased by his suggestion. She could tell it wasn’t about rushing or doing something with a purpose—just an easy, quiet exploration. She met his gaze for a brief second, the warmth in his eyes making her smile faintly. There was something comforting about the way he wanted to experience this together, something she didn’t know she’d needed until now. “Yeah,” she said softly, her voice carrying that gentle sense of agreement. “I think I’d like that.” Her hand slid into his naturally, as if it was always meant to fit there, and she felt a rush of contentment as he guided them toward the trees. The rustling of the leaves and the soft chirp of birds in the distance reminded her that they were far away from anything they used to know. It was just the two of them here now, on this island, in this place that could be anything they made of it. And for the first time in a while, she felt like she could finally breathe. She walked beside him, no rush, just the steady sound of their footsteps on the earth, feeling the warmth of his hand in hers, and looking forward to wherever this new journey would lead.

Sage sort of just wandered alongside her for a while, peering around excitedly as they walked. There were plenty of birds and small game that could be hunted, and plenty of signs of larger game as well. "There's plenty of food that's for sure," he murmured. He wasn't really looking for specific animals....but it was good to see signs of larger life to hunt without even looking. It meant there was vegetation as well, and plenty of water. Hopefully, there wouldn't be many large predators either. He wasn't wearing shoes, but that wasn't exactly abnormal for him either....but he was fine. They weren't going anywhere dangerous either, just along the grassy paths that were sort of still there from before. He'd leave them like this probably, keep things a bit more natural for the wildlife...but still keep them clear enough to walk through. The soil was good...nice and dark, and everything seemed healthy. He knew they were just supposed to be relaxing, but there were things he had been trained to look for and think about before settling down somewhere. He'd learned it a long time ago. So he was, absentmindedly, thinking of those things as he walked. But he was definitely still enjoying his time.

Jora watched Sage with an amused smile, her eyes scanning the landscape as he excitedly peered around. He was always like this—observant and alert, even when it wasn’t necessary. It was kind of endearing, though, the way his focus shifted from the birds to the signs of larger game, scanning the environment for things others might miss. She wasn't surprised that he wasn’t really looking for anything specific. He had a way of picking up on the rhythms of the land, sensing what was coming even before it showed itself. “A good sign, huh?” she murmured, her voice soft, but she wasn’t really asking him to respond. She knew what he saw: a healthy ecosystem, a balance of life. She didn’t need to point out how the soil was rich and the air was clear. She could tell from the way his bare feet brushed the earth, how he moved effortlessly through the terrain. He was at home here, even in his quiet, absentminded way. It made her smile, watching him adjust the path, making subtle changes that would help maintain the natural flow of things. The man didn’t just walk—he shaped the world around him without even thinking about it. But, despite the tranquility, she knew he couldn’t turn off the instincts that had been drilled into him over the years. No, he was always thinking ahead, always aware of the potential dangers lurking just out of sight. It wasn’t something you could ever really shake off, especially not when you had the kind of training he did. She didn’t mind. She understood it, even if it made him seem more distant at times. So, she just walked beside him, taking in the sights and sounds, letting him have his space. There were moments when he let himself relax—those little flashes of peace that passed across his face—and she appreciated those moments when they came.

Sage had hummed softly in agreement to her comment, mond already moving on. It wasn't often his mind slowed down, or stopped really....he'd grown used to that. But out here....it seemed like his mind was able to slow down quite a bit. Even now, thinking about simple things like the soil and such, it didn't feel like work. It was just....thoughts in the back of his head. Things he noticed. But his mind wasn't working overtime, which he definitely appreciated. They made a loop around the woods, examining the mile of terrain around the cabin. There was a lot of good signs, and not a lot of bad. They'd picked a good spot, he thought....and he was certainly glad of it. They were hlwandering back inside now though, and he slid onto the couch happily. "What are we thinking for dinner," he sort of mused after a moment. All they'd really had was cake, which was good but not life sustaining. They'd need actual food too. Especially after exercise.

Jora paused for a moment, stepping through the door and glancing back at him. It was strange, seeing Sage so... still. He'd always been in motion before, his thoughts scattered, a blur of energy. But out here, in the quiet of the woods, it was like he'd found a way to breathe slower. It made her feel... lighter, too. She took a deep breath, then smiled softly. "We could do something simple. Maybe stew? We’ve got some fresh herbs from the garden now, and I think there’s still some of that venison left." She set down the basket of plants she'd been picking from around the cabin, then looked at him, an eyebrow quirked. "Unless you’re feeling like trying something new? You seem like you’re in the mood to experiment these days." Her voice was light, teasing even, but there was an underlying softness there too—she couldn’t help but notice how much more at ease Sage seemed. Maybe it was the peace of the place, or maybe it was the stillness in his mind that had nothing to do with constantly chasing the next idea. Either way, it felt... good. She liked this.

Sage had hummed softly when she mentioned stew, nodding along with the idea happily. "That sounds good," he chirped. It was a good idea...and he had to admit he did want to try out her cooking. She'd been wonderful at baking ...and he didn't know that he'd ever had a good homemade meal. It was orphanage food then slave rations and then boat food. None of which was very good. So he was excited for that aspect of life too, he could admit that. He sort of just settled in the couch happily, watching her move around the kitchen as she worked. She seemed happy there ....so he was just glad to watch it all happen. He would offer to help, but they both knew he would really probably get in the way or mess things up. He wasnt much of a help in the kitchen. He could hunt or gather the food ....but that was as far as his skills went, really.

Jora watched Sage with a soft smile, feeling a gentle warmth spread through her as she saw the excitement in his eyes. There was something so pure in the way he reacted to the simplest things. Stew, of all things, seemed like a small thing to most people, but for Sage, it was like a whole new world. She could see the joy in his expression, and it made her heart swell. She wasn’t sure if he fully realized it, but in his simple happiness, he reminded her of everything she’d missed—of the moments when life could be uncomplicated and just...good. She moved around the kitchen, letting the sounds of chopping and stirring fill the space between them, but her mind often drifted back to Sage. He seemed content there on the couch, watching her work with a kind of peaceful focus. There was something comforting in the way he was so happy just to be in the background, as if his presence alone was enough. Jora couldn't help but admire it. He didn’t need to be the center of attention—he didn’t need to do anything, really. Just his company, his quiet support, was enough. Truth be told, she liked it when he was there, even if he wasn’t much help in the kitchen. She didn't mind. It was the thought that counted. And she could tell he enjoyed it, just like she did. It felt nice to share something as simple as cooking a meal with someone who understood the importance of it without needing to say a word. She turned her focus back to the stew, stirring the pot with a contented hum. It wasn’t just the food she was preparing—it was the moment itself. Something real, something unpretentious. Something good. Something she could share with Sage, who seemed to treasure even the small things as much as she did. It made her feel like maybe, for the first time in a long while, she was exactly where she needed to be.
