The girl nodded slightly and leaned against the door frame as she got her breath back... god, she must have looked completely crazy. "I- yeah, sorry," she breathed after a moment or so and gave a weary type of chuckle. She cocked her head when he said Sage had been in the barn all night. Really? He'd just left the boy there. Well, she supposed if the doctor thought it was alright then it would be. Plus, she'd love to see the tatty-looking boy curled up with a sweet little foal. "I'll go make something for him," she chirped brightly before turning back towards the kitchen. She quickly put a plate of pancakes together before she took it down to the barns... just as the doctor said, the boy was curled up with the foal still, and the mother was still laying just behind the boy, though she was eating happily on the hay. She rested her head on the stable door and cooed the boy's name, a playful-looking smile across her face, no doubt to embarrass the boy to some extent.

The doctor nodded his thanks to the girl before going back to writing in his notebook. He was glad of the girl ..though he hadn't exactly kept an eye on the clock himself. Hed had no idea she was late. Sage, however, was less than amused to be woken up, so he just groaned and sunk deeper into the mass of horse when he heard his name called. He was warm, and was, admittedly, still tired...he didn't want to wake up. Though, the mare turned around to nudge him after he moved, which made him open his eyes to pat the mares forehead lightly. He looked over at the direction he'd heard his name come from, and blinked blearily at Mari. "What do you want," he grumbled, though a yawn broke the sentence a bit. The foal was still asleep in his lap, and the more he woke up, the more he realized what position he was in. And, admittedly, his face flushed a bright red at the realization he was cuddling with the animals. Lovely. His blush was annoying sometimes.. it really was.

The girl let a goofy grin cross her face as the boy slowly came to the realisation of the position he was in. It was sweet, it really was. Still, she couldn't resist making a light tease of it, even if it wasn't verbal. "You need to be more polite to people that are bringing you things." The look on her face was more than enough to let him know what she was thinking. Probably something along the lines of, 'cosy?' or some other awful kind of dad joke that would make you laugh out of pity more than anything else. "I wanted to see... this," she chirped lightly. "The doctor said you'd be out here. He also said to make you some breakfast and that if I was quick I might be able to catch a glimpse of your little pony cuddle," she told him with a laugh before carefully slipping into the stable, being sure to make sure the mare was comfortable first before kneeling down next to the three. "Breakfast in bed, sir?" She asked in an ever so polite and yet completely mocking tone.

Sages jaw dropped when the girl continued to talk. "he knew I was out here," he squeaked, his turning more red as he spoke. He glared at the girl then, though not really I'm an angry way at all. "Well, I'm sure they're more comfortable than any bed you've ever been in," he huffed. "And they're all mine." Then he snorted and yanked the plate from the girl before throwing a handful of hay at her. "I hate you so much," he huffed, not really meaning what he'd said. He was quite fond of the girl, though it would take...a lot to get him to ever admit that.

The girl squeaked when the boy threw hay at her... she wasn't sure why, it wasn't like it was particularly forceful or anything, but oh well. She grinned as the boy went on to tell her that he hated her. It was a joke, and she knew that, but she felt something almost... drop in her stomach as he said that. Still, she continued to grin goofily at him. "My beds are perfectly comfortable. And you're not meant to like me!" She snorted as she continued to sit down next to them, gently stroking the foal's neck. She was still a little weary of them... but she figured if this boy had managed to sleep next to them all night, then she'd be alright for a couple of minutes just giving them a fuss.

Sage snorted in response to the girl and shrugged. "Yeah, well...most people aren't very nice to me. I don't take that lightly," he murmured when she said he wasn't supposed to like her. Maybe he wasn't supposed to, but that didn't mean he couldn't be friends with the girl. He felt a blush cross his cheeks though, and he shyly averted his gaze, fiddling with the food on his plate. "You are you being so nice anyway," he hummed, tilting his head curiously. "You don't know me...and if you did your be less inclined to be so nice."

The girl looked from the foal and gave a light nod. The simple answer was because he was hurt and it was her job to look after I'll patients. But she really did quite like him, even if he made her job that little bit different. And, well, the doctor wanted her to get to know him. Be his friend, she supposed. "I'm nice to most people," she hummed lightly before she shaking her head. "But I do quite like you." She murmured after a small breath. "And the doctor said you've been through it. And I know what it's it's like to be alone, especially out in the slums- and you need a friend to get through that even if you're not there any more. It stays with you," she told him after a moment before going back to playing with what little mane the foal had.

Sage hummed in thought for a moment, nodding slowly. Well, it was nice to know that the girl wasn't just acting nice because the doctor told her to, or because she felt obliged to since she was technically acting in as a doctor herself. The foal was loving the attention...two people and momma there to cuddle up to? It was probably nice. "How much did he tell you," he asked, now curious as to how much the girl knew. He didn't really mind, he just wanted to know. Besides, if they were going to be friends, she deserved to know at least a little bit about him. He trusted her, though his brain still warned him to be careful. He'd only known the girl for a week or so, though she was nicer than Anya even, at first, so she couldn't be all bad. Besides...she wasn't going to be able to hurt him at all. Unless she flat out told him he was worthless and stupid and she meant it, but he half expected that from everyone at some point anyway.

Mari smiled softly at the boy when she thought about it. Really the doctor hadn't said much about the boy... not really. But she knew he'd had a rough time in the slums, and that he'd worked in the tavern. "Not much... not really. That you worked in the tavern. That alone is reason enough to be... decent," she told him after a moment. "No tavern is a nice place, not anywhere you go," huffed lightly. She'd been here long enough... she'd worked in the tavern. She'd been in the castle too, even though it wasn't awful, the hours were long and she was, and she was always tired.. but, she was treated a hell of a lot better here than she had been out in the tavern. And she could talk about her work to her family now that it wasn't so... sickening.

Sage hummed and nodded again. "That's where Anya first found me," he told the girl. "Apparently I looked bad enough she offered to pay me if I told her about the town," he chuckled. "We got to know eachother and she started coming out at night to talk. Then we got kidnapped together and she forced her mom to bring me back here." He shrugged slightly. "The queen was gonna leave me there, but Anya threw such a fit she finally gave in. I was unconscious by then so I didn't have much say in the matter, though I would have been fine dying there too." He chuckled dryly then and shrugged. "I went back a while later...then Anya somehow found me again. I was...dying. starving. And the tavern work had pretty much worn my body out. I couldn't even walk." He shook his head and pinched his lips together. "For some reason, she wants to keep me here," he sighed.
