The girl grinned and nodded before hopping back up and scurrying off to grab him water and something else for the pain. "I don't want to give you too much," she told him once he returned. "But I'll leave some on the side so that when you do wake up you can top up," she hummed as she handed him some water. She had to admit, it was a little weird it'd... just getting into bed with the boy there, but they could talk for a little while first. She flopped back on her own bed after a little while with a bit of a heavy breath. "What happened," she asked quietly, "Today, I mean. You looked terrified," she whispered as she rolled over her side to look at him with a cocked head.

Sage nodded and took the water and medicine, giving the girl a quiet thank you before taking the medicine. He took it dry, out of habit, even though he had water in his hand too. It was just an absentminded action...he didn't put much thought into it. But he was thirsty too, so he drank some of the water once he realized he had it. He went to lay down, muscles protesting slightly. Eventually though, he got curled up under the blankets again, and looked over at the girl when she spoke up. He hummed in thought and then gave her a sheepish smile. "To tell the truth, I don't remember a whole lot of it," he murmured. "I suppose panic does that." He wrinkled his nose slightly and then shrugged. "He just...appeared, in the middle of the night. Not sure how he got in, or out for that matter since he knocked me out right away. But I woke up in like...some kind of box or something." He shuddered slightly and swallowed rather hard, trying to explain without triggering any flashbacks or... anything. "I...don't like small spaces. He used to lock me up in the cabinets under the sink as a kid, as punishment...for hours, sometimes even days." He shook his head slightly and sighed. "Needless to say, I wasn't a fan of whatever I was in. At some point he dragged me out, and started just yelling and hitting...which isn't abnormal for him." He furrowed his brows slightly, trying to remember what happened next. "That's when my head started spinning and I don't really remember what else happened. There were other people there...men and women, and they were all near me, toying with me I think ...but I don't remember much. The doctor and you showed up some point after they left. And...you know the rest "

The girl felt her stomach drop a little when he explained what he could remember... the fact that his own father had it in him to hurt his own son like that was... well, sickening to the core. The fact that the man would lock his own child in a box or sorts was horrifying, and even though the boy was technically... well, a man, she could still see why it would terrify him. God, she would have been, even if it hadn't happened to her as a child. And what was even more horrifying was that his father had it in him to let other people do whatever they so pleased with his own son. She looked at Sage for a moment as she thought about it and muttered a quick apology to him... but it wasn't really for her... it was an apology for everyone that had wronged him in his short life, which she took to be many, many people. Sage, this man, he was so kind and considerate, right, he was a little stubborn but that was outweighed by everything else. And he was so... good. The thought that anyone wanted to hurt him was so sickening, it really was... but his father was dead now. He wouldn't need to go back out there, not unless he wanted to now.

Sage dimly heard the girl's apology and shook his head, trying to let her know she didn't have to apologize...not for herself, not that she was sorry for him, not for anything or anyone else. "I'm used to it," he hummed quietly, closing his eyes wearily and curling up under the covers. He would have stayed awake to talk longer, but he was really just exhausted. He was asleep pretty much as soon as he eyes closed...which, he supposed was normal after the night and day he'd had. He definitely hadn't slept much the night before either. But it was comforting to have the girl there with him...maybe that made it easier to fall asleep. Normally he'd fight sleep, knowing nightmares would come and haunt him all night, but the girl would help if that happened, and he was too tired to do much else right about then.

Mari nodded lightly to the boy, though she was still sorry about everyone that'd wronged him... he didn't deserve it, he really didn't. The girl buried herself under the covers after a moment and stared up at the ceiling. She had to admit, the ward wasn't the most homely place... and she really wasn't comfortable at all, but Sage needed someone there, and she really hoped that she was being some sort of comfort to the boy. Just knowing that someone was there to help if he really needed it. She rested her hands behind her head and turned her head over to Sage with a small sigh. "Goodnight," she told him quietly as she tried to get herself a little more comfortable. Soon enough, though, she managed to get herself into a light sleep, still somewhat aware that she might need to be up at a moments notice. Edited at February 5, 2023 09:58 AM by Belle

Sage slept pretty well, all things considering. He supposed his body just wanted to sleep, and it was deep enough there wasn't much room for nightmares. Towards the morning though, when he entered more of a light sleep, the nightmares started in and jerked awake with a type of yelp, trembling. He tried to stay quiet and not wake the girl, though he wasn't sure how well it was working. He sort of blindly crawled over towards the girls bed and crawled up on it before curling up below the girls feet. Being closer admittedly helped calm him down a bit, and he fell asleep then. He was still trembling a bit, but at least he got a bit of light sleep.

Mari quietly woke herself up when she felt the bed shift with the boy's weight. She gave a bit of a groan but forced her eyes awake. She sat up quietly, only to see the boy curled at her feet. He was shaking a little... she thought about waking him up and moving over to get under the covers, but she wasn't too worried, and if he was asleep then he would be alright. If he wanted to come up next to her then she wouldn't care, but for the time being, she simply curled up so that he had more space and let herself drift back off to sleep.

Sage woke up again a few hours later, and glanced out at the sun rise to check the time. It was early ... But he doubted he could fall back asleep again that night. Er...morning. whatever. He glanced over at Mari, who was still asleep, and then felt a bit bad about coming into her bed. He wasn't sure if she knew he'd been there or not, but she'd chosen a bed other than his to sleep on, and he's sort of violated that. He sighed slightly and slipped back over to his own bed with a slight wince. He was definitely stiff and sore, and things were definitely starting to hurt like hell, as the doctor had said, but he wasn't entirely sure he deserved the pain meds right about then. Besides, taking them seemed like a lot of work. So he sort of just sat there, leaning against the wall, looking out the window but not seeing anything happening outside.

The girl woke up a little while later, hugging her pillow as the sun shone through the window and into her face. She shifted a little to bury her face into the pillow but soon forced herself up. She looked to the bottom of the bed and then looked to Sage and tried a small smile. "Morning," she murmured softly as she rubbed her eyes, then made herself slide out of bed and made her way over to a small mirror in the corner to sort her hair out then went to the bedside table, only to find some very untaken pain medication. She shook her head and handed the pills to Sage. "You need to stay topped up," she warned with a weary yawn. "Or you're going to hurt, remember?"

Sage murmured a good morning to the girl when she spoke up, but it was really just out of habit. He didn't even look in her direction...it was just a common reaction, to respond to someone talking to him. He wrinkled his nose when she handed him the pills, though he didn't really feel up for arguing with the girl, so he reached for the pills with a sigh. He winced slightly, the small movement sending pain shooting through his arm and torso. He popped the pill into his mouth and swallowed it before going back to stare out the window again. "Sleep well," he asked, trying to find a sort of conversation to keep his mind somewhere....safe. The shock had worn off by then, so he wasn't as...ok as he'd seemed the day before. He certainly felt a heck of a lot worse today. But, he supposed he would just have to push through it, the same as always.
