The doctor wandered in a bit later....closer to late afternoon, really. He'd gotten busy with one of the other patients, who'd taken a turn for the worst over the night. So he came in rather wearily, but gave the girl a small smile and sat down on the chair with a sigh. "I'll stay with him tonight...you go do what you need to do," he hummed softly, not wanting to wake the boy up. He wanted to stay anyway, he sort of felt bad about leaving him alone for so long after such an event. He'd expected the boy would get upset, but he hadn't known the full story either, and hadn't expected such a reaction from the usually so...docile boy. Of course, he knew the boy had a bit of a temper and everything else that went along with it, but he hadn't quite expected that level of reaction. He just supposed he'd have to keep an eye out for something that might set the boy on edge. But he wanted to stay with the boy through the night....he definitely didn't trust the boy not to end up hurting himself if he woke up from a nightmare. But the girl didn't have to stay, she had other things to do. And if she could find a kitten within the next few days, it would be nice too.

Mari looked at the doctor with a soft nod, though didn't make a move to leave. She kind of felt bad for leaving him, but she knew the boy would probably be a bit more relaxed with the doctor than he would be with her... still she was reluctant to let go of his hands, and to leave his side. "I've actually found a little litter to go and see... I'll pick one up tonight and see how he's doing tomorrow," she hummed lightly as she looked to the boy. She gave his hand a bit of a squeeze before sliding them apart and wandering out the room. She quickly went to get changed before making a little bit of a run into the village... she picked up a stupid amount of toys for this cat, and a little bed for it along with some food and treats. She then went to see the man with the cats and her eyes eventually landed on the smaller of the tortoiseshel females... it had the most gorgeous amber eyes, almost like Sages, and it was the most chilled out of the three that were left. She handed over the money that was asked before setting the little animal up in a small crate before wandering back up to the castle, careful to avoid Sage if he was up yet, and took it to her room... it just seemed to be sleeping so she let the little thing out to have a look around before putting it back in the little crate while she was back in the ward... it was big enough so that the animal would walk about, but it just meant that the little thing couldn't destroy her room.

The doctor smiled and nodded in response to the girl. "I'm sure he'll be very happy," he hummed softly, looking down at the boy. Sage barely even noticed the girl leave, and almost panicked before he felt the doctor settle down in the girls old spot. He relaxed a bit then, knowing the doctor could handle anything that came up. He felt a bit bad that the doctor had to sit there with him, since he knew he had patients he probably had to tend to, and work that needed to get done. But the man had made the move to sit there on his own will...so he couldn't be too busy. But that was good, since he knew the man was there even when he left to sleep in the bed that Mari had pushed into his room the week prior. He couldn't feel him, but he knew he was there, and that was alright.

Mari reappeared in the ward for a couple of hours after picking up the little thing... it just seemed to sleep, so she took it the animal wouldn't take the change to harshly. That was what she hoped, at least. It would be a good comfort animal for Sage, keep him head about him. She got some little jobs done down at the ward and brought dinner down on a little tray. Though, both the doctor and Sage were dead asleep by then, and she couldn't help her goofy little smile that it caused. She placed a plate next to their beds but took a moment to watch Sage... not it a weird way or anything, but he just looked so much more peaceful when he was asleep. So much calmer, almost... younger. It kind of made her feel bad that there was nothing she could do to make him so peaceful when he was awake. She rolled her eyes to herself before wandering back out to see the rest of the patients, then made her way back to bed rather swiftly.

The doctor and sage slept for a few hours, though Sage woke up to a nightmare only a few hours into the night. He'd started scratching even before he was awake, though once he woke up, all that happened was an increase in the activity and a desperate dash to huddle in the corner of the room. The doctor, of course, woke at the flurry of movement and lunged after the boy, wrapping his arms around him and holding his hands still as he thrashed about. He calmed down within a half an hour, but by the time the doctor had cleaned the scratches and was satisfied about sage getting comfortable back in bed, it was nearly dawn. Sage didn't want to go back to sleep, even though he was exhausted, and the doctor heasitated to sleep with sage still up, even though he was just as physically exhausted as the boy. So they just...sat there, the doctor rubbing Sage's back gently while sage himself stared at the wall some more. It was sad really...the doctor would have to get some rest, but he had to go do morning rounds soon enough, so he could sleep after that he supposed.

Mari woke up pretty early in the morning, mainly because she couldn't help but want to go and play with the little kitten before she got to her shift... or was making the tiniest little squeaks of a meow, so she put down some food for it and gave it a fuss before getting to the ward... she couldn't find the doctor, but she supposed he'd be busy, so went to get the breakfast trolly from the kitchen and started putting food out for everyone... they couldn't have their meds until they'd eaten, so she'd take the Ned cart around later. She had to admit, she was pretty excited about giving Sage this cat... she really did hope he'd like it. She was sure he'd like any animal, but this was kind of different because it was going to be his. It might make him feel better... he'd had a bad day the day before. She poked her head into Sages room, a plate full for fruit for the boy, though she could only see the doctor sitting with the boy, seemingly trying to calm him down. She frowned and placed the plate on the side with a soft sigh. "What happened?" She asked the old man quietly.

Sage continued to stare at the wall even when Mari came into the room. He barely took her voice in, though he did take note of her presence in the back of his head. The doctor yawned and shook his head slightly in response to the girls question. "Up all night," he groaned. "Nightmares. The boy occasionally freaks out and scratches," he informed the girl gently, nodding his head to the drops of blood that were scattered over the floor and corner sage had huddled in. There was a bit on the bed too, though not as much as the corner. "I have to do rounds ...when you're done with your things, come back here and stay so I can leave." He didn't quite trust the boy alone, and Mari had the kitten as far as he knew, which would hopefully help the boy feel at least a little bit better. If anything, it would give him something to cuddle and give him a bit of peace of mind.

Mari nodded to the man and gave a rather sympathetic nod. The poor boy... he'd just gotten better, too. And that god awful woman coming in just seemed to have set him off again. She wandered what she was trying to achieve by telling them she was the boys mother. Maybe it was because he was in the castle... she didn't know. But she'd just made matters worse. "I'll be back in a bit... I've done pretty much everything I need to now," she hummed before wandering off to her room... she gathered everything up before making sure the kitten was happy in her crate. She carefully picked it up before wandering over to the ward. She gave the doctor a bit of a smile before placing the little carrier crate down. "She's sweet," she told the man before looking to Sage who was still zoned out. She could sit with him while the doctor was gone, and show him the little animal. She watched the man leave before sighing and sitting down next to the boy and went to run her nails lightly along his back. "Morning," she hummed lightly... he was awake, but he didn't really seem... with it. She needed to get his attention before handing the tiny animal over to him.

The doctor nodded in response to the girl's comment, sighing once she left and patting the boys side gently. Once the girl came back, he left the two of them alone. He had things he needed to get done...patients needed to be tended to, and then he needed some rest. He wasn't as young as he used to be. Sage hummed slightly when the girl murmured her greeting. Her voice had broken him out of his trance a bit, though he was still exhausted. At this point, that was the worst of it...he really just needed sleep, but couldn't bring himself to calm down enough to let himself drift off. Well, he supposed laying here was as good as anything.. though he should try to get out of his own head. If he could manage to do that, he might be able to rest a bit. But time would tell, he supposed. Mari was here....that helped too, a bit.

The girl kind of frowned when she didn't get a reply, but she knew he would have been struggling, and tired. She decided she needed to be a bit more cheerful for him, though and went over to grab one of the toys and the crate with the kitten in it. She handed him a little stitched carrot that kind of crinkled when you touched it. "You'll never guess what I got up to last night," she hummed lightly, giving a bit more of a smile and she opened the little door to the crate at pulled out a tiny little tortoiseshell kitten. She still wouldn't give him the animal, not until he was feeling a bit more... about himself.
