The girl cocked her head at him a little bit and shook her head. She didn't mind staying. Someone had to, but he might have preferred the doctor. It was quiet... peaceful other than the gentle pur of the tiny kitten. "I can go if you'd prefer it," she murmured quietly. The air seemed so still... almost unbearably so, but she supposed it would be good for Sage. His head must have been so busy... so the quiet on the outside, that would have been good. "I can go get the doctor if that would make anything better," she breathed with a bit of a yawn. She just wanted him to be happy, and that was it. If he was more comfortable with the doctor, then that was fine.

Sage chuckled slightly and shook his head slightly. "No, this is fine," he hummed. "I like having you here." The girl looked tired though...no doubt she was worried about quite a few things herself. Anyone would be tired after that. "You could have slept though," he noted in a slightly amused tone of voice "You look like you could have used it," he chuckled lightly. The girl would have questions no doubt, and he'd answer them...she deserved that much. But she might want to sleep first. "I can answer questions once you rest." If she really wanted to talk now, that was fine, but she did look tired.

Mari furrowed her brows a little bit before patting his head with a weary looking smile. "I wanted to be up incase you needed anything," she murmured quietly. She couldn't help but be a little bit amused when he said that he liked having her here... it was nice to hear, but she just wasn't sure if he meant it or if he didn't want to upset her... she wouldn't have cared either way. This was about him, and whatever made him most comfortable was best. He didn't really seem to be the type to lie just for someone's feelings, though. She pursed her lips a little bit but eventually sighed and nodded before sliding down into the bed and tucking her nose into his neck again as she seeked the darkness. "Will you wake me up in a few minutes," she whispered... she did feel bad about sleeping when she might be needed. Edited at March 1, 2023 12:08 PM by Belle

Sage gave the girl a thankful look and nodded with a hum. "I appreciate it but you need rest too," he hummed. He nodded in response to her comment, as much as he could with her head buried in his neck. He pecked her on the top of her head and wrapped his arms around her, more than happy to cuddle for a bit. "Go to sleep, everything will be fine," he hummed lightly, glad she was deciding to sleep for a bit. He'd let her rest...he would lay there with her for a while, and then he could answer any questions she had.

Mari sighed softly when she felt his arms wrap around her... she felt comfortable, she did, but she still felt like she should be the one holding into him... keeping him grounded. Whatever. If he insisted it was okay, that he'd be fine if she went to sleep for a little bit, then she could only believe him. Soon enough, she did drift off... his warmth and scent was a comfort, along with the slow rise and fall of his chest against hers. It was nice. She managed to stay up that way for a long while... definitely a hell of a lot longer than she was anticipating.

Sage smiled slightly when he felt the girl relax into him, and sort of just absentmindedly ran his fingers through her hair while she slept. He closed his eyes, and rested, but didn't fall asleep again...Amber wanted attention and if he was being honest, he was enjoying holding the girl and burying himself in her scent and warmth too much to allow himself to sleep again. He felt her stir after a while, though, and smiled down at her slightly. "Sleep well," he hummed softly.

Mari hummed softly at the boys comment... though her tone was light and airy, which was definitely a positive response to the question. It did take her a good few moments to open her eyes again, but in truth even when she did she didn't want to move... and yet, she had to. She couldn't stay in his arms forever... it just wasn't possible, and they did have things to talk about. "Thank you," she whispered to him before tilting her head back a little bit so that she could see him, a small smile across her face at the very sight of him. "Thank you," she huffed lightly aging before resting her head on the pillow quietly. She didn't need to be so thankful... it was just sleep, but it was needed... and it was nice to just be held and feel loved for a little bit. Edited at March 1, 2023 01:03 PM by Belle

Sage chuckled slightly and nodded in response to the girl's comment. "You don't always have to take care of me," he hummed. "I can help you out too," he pointed out, though not in a chiding or upset way. Just...letting the girl know that he had his problems, but he was still willing to listen to her and help her out too. No relationship would work if one person was always a burden and the other always putting their own thoughts and feelings aside to help the other. It just wasn't healthy. He was silent for a moment before speaking up again, almost in a hesitant manner. "You probably have questions," he murmured, sort of telling the girl she could ask things. He really wouldn't mind, and he felt a bit better than earlier. That may have been because he sort of just went numb after a point, but still. She had a right to ask. It was scary for her too, after all. And if they were ever going to get more...intimate...she deserved to know who he'd slept with. Not that he knew himself exactly who he'd been with, but still.

Mari nodded slightly to the boy, her small smile still very much across her face... she knew she didn't have to take care of him all the time... but she supposed that was just what she was accustomed to now. She'd been taking care of other people for years, it was almost strange to thing that someone would try and do the same for her. "I know it's just..." she trailed off slightly, not really sure what she was going to say next. Did he mean that? That he could help her out too? Did that mean she could tell him about... well, everything? She didn't know... she didn't know if it'd deter him from her. He had his own issues, and really it just didn't seem fair to put things that she'd been through, that had hurt her into him. He did deserve to know if whatever this is was going to work... it was nothing as big as what he had been through, and as much as it had affected her at the time, right now wasn't the moment to tell him about any of it. She nodded quietly at his little comment and gently went to trail her fingers along his collar bone. "I mean... yeah. I have a few," she murmured before looking up to him with furrowed brows. "What..." yeah, that was a good question. 'What.' "Sage, tell me exactly what went on in that tavern," she whispered to the boy. She'd gotten the idea of it now... it was pretty obvious.

Sage watched the girl struggle to word her question right for a moment before cocking his head slightly. "A lot," he chuckled, though it was a rather dry laugh, and not at all a happy one. "I waited on people...you saw the environment it was," he started after a moment or so. "You also saw how I had to act, as someone of my rank, even towards other low ranking people. I could enforce rules, but anything else I didn't have a say in it. I had to just..obey," he explained. He sighed slightly and shrugged. "I didn't make much...so I started staying after hours, working through the night and cleaning, that sort of thing...but I couldn't go all day and night all the time, so I had to take days off." He pursed his lips slightly and shook his head. "It was pretty obvious I couldn't afford to do that after a day or so, so I had to figure something else out. If it were just me, I'd have taken my chances with stealing more, but if I got flogged and couldn't work...or stoned, or hung, or arrested...Liz would starve." He shrugged slightly, almost sadly, and sort of just...zoned out the window. "Working rooms was the only other thing I could do. It wasn't preferred but..." he trailed off with a sort of helpless shrug. But what? He didn't really have a choice. "If I got a decent tip, I'd make a couple of dollars a week. It was enough to keep us alive," he murmured. They were barely alive...and he'd way overworked himself....but they were alive. Not that it had mattered, though, he supposed. He was silent for a moment before just kind of whispering "Don't hate me for it" to the girl. "I know it's awful...but it was the only thing I could do." His voice broke then and he closed his eyes painfully, Amber looking over at him worriedly. He didn't trust himself to say anything else, so he stayed quiet but buried his face into the cat's fur, desperately trying not to break down crying again.
