The tears eventually stopped... well, they didn't stop, more like they came in small waves every time she thought of something else that was going wrong. She just held him, and by then her whole body was just... shivering. She knew he didn't want to hear it, but all she could to was apologise. This wasn't fun, and she knew he was working so hard for her... which was why she wanted to at least let him sleep in a little bit. She choked on her words, really just repeating herself again and again. She was just working herself up at this point, and she just felt weak. This wasn't what Sage signed up for, but she just wanted him to stay. She didn't want to drive him off with all... this. "Please don't leave," she eventually croaked out, her head still buried into his chest. "I know this is horrible, but just stay with me," she whispered as she eventually got the tears to slow down.

Sage eventually just let the girl continue to apologize, hoping it was helping her peace of mind at least a little bit. She knew she didn't have to, but if it helped her, even just a little bit....well, he could stand it he supposed. He hugged her tighter when he felt her shivering, trying to keep her warm and safe and happy....though, he was quite obviously failing at all of those things. He felt her comment hit his gut and heart like a bullet and roll about like a knife was being twisted in his chest. Did she really think he'd leave once things got tough? Was she honestly worried that he'd just up and leave her like this? "I'm not going anywhere," he murmured, promising the girl and hoping it was true. He knew he wasn't the healthiest person out there, and if he got sick it could really do him in. But right now, he couldn't worry about that. He just had to keep trying to help Mari.

Mari nodded to the boy when he promised her he wasn't going to leave. She really hoped that was the case... because she wasn't making this easy, and she knew that. She wanted this to be a good experience for them both, but it was just... hard. She eventually sighed once she'd managed to dry her face and sat back from the boy just a tiny bit. Her eyes were red and puffy now, and she was clearly just... hurting in every way. But what had tipped her over the edge was mainly just how good Sage was being to her... she knew he was sacrificing a lot just to look after her, even if she didn't need it. She didn't want him to be miserable because of her. He wasn't doing a single thing wrong, and how her body was reacting didn't have anything to do with him. She wasn't used to being looked after the way he was looking after her, and that was it... everything else just piled up, which was what had opened the flood gates in the first place. "You don't deserve all this... You're working so hard for me and I-" she broke off again as her voice crackled, deciding it wasn't worth making herself cry like that again, especially if it was making Sage feel bad too. She just felt like she was letting him down about something he was so exited about. She shifted a little bit to rest her head on his shoulder and wrapping her arms around him... he must have been exhausted too, and it was her fault. The least she could do was give him a little bit of love in return, to let him know she did appreciate, well, everything he was doing for her.

Sage was more than happy to sit with the girl while she cried. He did feel his shoulders relax slightly when she dried her tears and sat back a little bit. "Better," he hummed. Well ....it was a kind of bad day, he knew that. And she definitely wasn't great still. But maybe a good cry did her a bit of good. He was surprised when the girl started going on again and he shook his head quite quickly, holding a finger to her mouth gently before she pulled him into a hug. "No ....I chose you for a reason," he assured the girl. "I want to help you...but I can't do that if you try to do it all yourself," he whispered. "I've had it rough...very rough ..you know that. This isn't anything I can't handle," he promised. "And I still don't feel like I'm doing much," he admitted. He hugged the girl back, then suggested "why don't we go back to the bed, rather than sit on the bathroom floor? You should get a drink, and lay down....relax. and when you feel better, we can head out."

Mari squeaked a little bit when he held a finger out to stop her. But she nodded quietly when he asked if she was better... well, no, but she didn't feel like she hated herself so much. She felt like she'd released something while she was crying though, something she'd needed to let go of for a very long time. She couldn't help her slight relief when he started telling her this was something he could deal with. She knew he'd had a very hard time in life... she just didn't want to make him miserable with something that they should be so excited for. "I know," she whispered, her voice still a bit shaky, but not like she'd burst out crying at any given moment anymore. "And I know you've been doing a lot for me... I just don't want you resenting me for it. I mean... you look like you're about to fall asleep right now. And there's nothing I can do for you in return... it's not like I can take over your work with the horses, or anything you do. You're doing so much more for me than I could ever ask for... if It doesn't feel like it's doing anything it's my fault, not yours... it's just me. It's been years since I've felt so loved and cared for... and you make things easier. I just don't want you to push yourself... this isn't easy on you, either. I really don't want you to worry as much as you are. It's not fair on you... and I don't want to make this hard for you... it shouldn't be... " she told him quietly. It was still very early on in the pregnancy, and she wasn't sure if Sage could go on like this, worrying and running after her for another nine months. She didn't want him to do that... he'd just stress himself out. When he asked to go back to bed, she nodded feebly. When he helped her up, her legs seemed to quiver, though she made it to the bed where she carefully set herself down against a pillow.

Sage listened to the girl talk for a while before nodding and helping her over to the bed. He understood her thinking, he did....and he understood what it was like to feel useless. "Mari, you're carrying my child. Giving me a family. That's something I could never do by myself, no matter how much I've wanted it," he murmured gently. "You don't need to take over my chores....you help me just by being here. The nightmares aren't so bad when I'm with you, and the bad memories aren't so potent....and I'm not used to being loved either, but we make it all work. I don't mind the work ....it seems like I should be doing more. I mean, you're carrying my child and I can, what, help with some chores? It just doesn't add up," he hummed. He leaned over to peck her on the forehead lightly. "Don't stress about it."

The girl nodded slightly biting the inside of her lip, clearly not really believing him too much. He looked tired... and he was always running about after her. Not just her work, but to be there when she was sick, or tired, or even with her migraines... he was always there for her. She was grateful, she really was, but she couldn't help but feel guilty that he was being messed around so much. She was glad she could give him a child, a family... but she just wished she wasn't making this so hard for him. "Sage... look at you. You look as tired as I am... and when was the last time you've eaten? Not snacks, but a full meal?" The girl asked with a soft sigh as she settled herself in bed. She'd noticed that he'd lost a bit of weight... and she didn't want to be reliable for that. He'd been running after her none stop, and he must have been tired of it. She couldn't help her small smile when he pecked her cheek... at least he didn't think too little of her to do that. She supposed that was what was scaring her about her morning sickness... that he'd be grossed out and wouldn't want to come near her. She knew it was a stupid thing to think, and that Sage wasn't like that... but it still did scare her quite a bit. Soon enough, she managed to settle down in bed, though she wasn't likely to get back to sleep from now on.

Sage pursed his lips slightly at the girl's comment. "Don't worry about me," he hummed, not really answering her question, since it had honestly been quite a while since he'd allowed himself a decent meal. But he didn't want to worry the girl any. He'd been on the slums streets ....he could stand to miss a few meals. "Just rest for a bit," he hummed, settling down next to the girl and wrapping an arm around her comfortingly. She didn't have to sleep, just rest and feel a bit better. Then they could leave. He didn't mean to fall back asleep....if fact he tried not to, but he was back in bed with Mari, and, well....he really was exhausted. He sort of felt bad about it, what if she needed him? But he was just so tired, and eventually his body betrayed him about it.

Mari pursed her lips but nodded softly. She'd always worry about him, just the same as he'd worry about her. She wished he wouldn't, but he did and there was nothing she could do about that. She melted into him when he wrapped an arm around her, and slipped her hand around his side like she always did. When he fell back to sleep, all she could do was watch his chest as it slowly rose and fell. She glanced over his features as he rested, and he did look so much younger... and she couldn't help her slight smile. Despite how awful she felt, and how guilty she was feeling, she couldn't help but be excited about this child she was having with this man... it would be hard at first, but once the little one came along it would all be worth it. She slipped a hand into his hair and rested her head under his chin as she rested. She didn't get to sleep, but she did start to feel a bit better. Whenever Sage started to stir again, she smiled quietly and pecked his head gently. "Hey," she whispered gently. She still felt bad, but it was... better. She just wanted to get going so they could settle down back home sooner.

Sage blinked his eyes open blearily when he heard the girl's voice and yawned, stretching slightly before curling up into her again. "Did I fall asleep," he sighed. "Sorry," he hummed with another slight yawn. He glanced out the window and judging by the sun, they'd been resting for a little over an hour. "feel better," he asked Mari quietly, still waking up a bit. She looked better, though, so hopefully she felt a bit better too. If she was ready to go, and felt up for it, then he wanted to get going while she still felt alright.
