"Who's with you?" I asked, expecting an answer as I choked down a gasp, stumbling before catching myself, biting down on my tounge as we carried on. |

"The general is in for an ass whooping when we get home, though. Soldiers chose him when I said we needed to get you. He turned away" She muttered, leading the mare |

"Nobody." My ears rang as my vision swam, looking at Kayla. "You. . . came by yourself, AND brought our son ALONE?! Are you insane?!" I snapped, still shocked she ever even thought about it. "Did the soldiers hesitate or did they still listen to you." |

"Don't yell at me!" She bellowed up at him, tossing the reins to him and crossing her arms. Malaka began to cry and Kayla held him, rocking side to side gently. "I wasn't about to leave our son alone for days on end without one of us there! I didn't know if anyone would even try to listen to me f I asked after the whole general thing, and I didn't want anyone to try to stop me. He gave up and said you got yourself into this. I have the medics locked up but I'll free them once we're home. Don't judge me on their current status." She muttered, continuing to walk and carry the crying toddler |

"I've already lost three sons, I will not lose another." I echoed, flicking my gaze away as I tried to busy my mind away from the topic. Jace and Caston. I still remember them like the back of my hand. Jace looked more like his mom, black hair, tan skin, brown eyes. Caston looked like me, same hair, same freckles, one blue eye and one brown eye. And then the sickness came. First it was their mother, then it was Caston-- My throat tightened slightly at the memory, my first son, dead. Then Jace got it, and I tried everything, and still failed. Then Kayla's first pregnancy, the baby died, he would've been my son. Now I have another son, and I refuse to let another one die. My vision blurred slightly as I zoned out, staring off at nothing as the mare walked along. |
