Mari smiled softly at his little kiss, and sort of rested her head on his shoulder, carefully avoiding the spot on her temple that was still rather swollen. And sore. And uncomfortable. She looked up at him after a minute and shrugged. She knew what he was implying... but if anything did happen, she wasn't aware of it enough to be upset. "I... don't think so... no," she whispered to him quietly. "I was out until we were in the woods," she told him carefully. She understood his worry plainly... he hadn't had the best time of it out there, and he'd probably had the worst of it. The worst of people. And she knew first hand those kind of people, too. "If anything happened I wouldn't have known... but I don't think so," she whispered gently to the boy.

Sage pursed his lips slightly but nodded in response to her comment, shoulders relaxing slightly as she spoke. Something could have happened like that....but even if it had, she'd been out cold and hadn't noticed. Good....this whole thing could have been just so much worse, he supposed. "good," he hummed, with a sort of heavy breath. "I'm just glad you're home and alright," he murmured softly. "Your mom and brothers will want to know too....do you want me to go tell them you're alright? Or would you rather me stay?" Personally, he wanted to stay, but he did want the rest of their little family to know she was alright. The doctor too...he'd obviously felt awful about seeing it happen and not being able to do anything about it. But for now, he just didn't want to leave her side.

Mari sort of shook her head... she didn't want him to go. She didn't want him to leave her side, not one bit. She kind of reached for his hand and wrapped her an around him, tightening it the best she could. "No... no just stay for a while," she murmured quietly to him. She sort of moved to wrap her arms around him again then let out a soft breath. "I'll come with you tomorrow," she murmured quietly. She then sort of came him a funny look. "Are you wearing makeup?" She mused gently to him as she ran a soft thumb along his cheek, though much to her dismay she felt a few light bumps along his skin, and where his tears had ran it away were red lines... "Sage, what have you done," she whispered quietly to him. Edited at October 6, 2023 05:15 AM by Belle

Sage nodded and curled into her a bit tighter when she took his hand. Good....he hadn't really wanted to leave her. "I'm not going anywhere," he promised her softly, honestly rather glad she'd asked him to stay. He nodded in response to her suggestion about stopping by tomorrow, though her next comment caught him a bit off guard, and he only was able to half move away from her hand before she'd figured out everything. He felt a flush creep along his cheek, suddenly embarrassed about the scratching habit. "I didn't want to scare the kids," he sort of mumbled, choosing to respond to her comment about the makeup rather than the other one.

Mari let Herself fall around him, her chest aching and head hurting from earlier in the day. At his promise, she smiled then gave a heavy sigh. She just wanted him near to her for a little while... it was nice that he'd agreed to that. She'd missed him so much, and while it was so, so important to tell her family, she just wanted time to chill out. To feel safe. Though, this, admittedly, was slightly less safe, now, and more of a worry than anything else. She nodded at his comment before shaking her head. "Well, covering it up like that won't make them heal any quicker," she whispered gently to him.

Sage sort of sighed in response to her comment, curling up carefully around her, not wanting to hurt her at all. "Well, that wasn't exactly something I was gonna eat myself worry about," he mused quietly with a sort of shrug. Putting makeup on an open wound wasn't the best thing to do, and he knew that, but he'd practically clawed his own face off, and he hadn't wanted to worry the kids. They didn't deserve to feel like he had. Besides, it probably made his complexion look not so....sicky to them too. Which was admittedly probably helpful. But Mari was back now, and while he still had to do a lot, a lot of worries were off his shoulder. So he did feel better. Though, that may have just been the shock of having her back home, because now he was starting to feel pretty crappy and sick again. He sort of curled up in the blanket a bit more, really trying not to worry her any more and let her relax.

Mari just sort of shook her head and hid herself in his touch again... she felt awful for missing all of this. That Sage had been so worried... that he'd managed to hurt himself, too... she should have been there. She should have helped him in every way she could possibly manage, and yet, she just hadn't. She hadn't been there for him, and it was stupid to be so worried about it, but she was. "Can we clean you up before you settled down," she whispered quietly to him. His wounds would only get infected, and she had a feeling he would have put the makeup directly on fresh wounds, which wasn't the best idea of ideas. "Please," she whispered softly to him.

Sage hummed slightly in response to her comment, nodding slightly. "Ok ...but I don't want you stressing yourself about it," he said quietly. He did feel pretty guilty that the moment she'd gotten home she'd had to start worrying about him...she needed to rest and stuff, not worry about cleaning him off. Plus he really didn't want to move. But, he made the move to sort of pad over to the bathroom to wash his face off, knowing it would help her. He sort of splashed water over his face and washed everything off, and then moved to curl up against her again, happy to be back with her and under the warm blanket.

Mari watched him wonder off, a small frown across her face... she knew he'd done it to himself, and that thought made her want to hurl. He'd done that to himself, and she couldn't help but feel it was her own fault. Well, it was she supposed. All her fault. "Don't worry about stressing me out, Sage," she murmured when he came back over, slowly shaking her head. "Just don't worry about me," she added, kind of moving to lay on her side so that Sage could lean on her a little. She ran her hands through his hair before letting out a breath. She was just glad to be back... and she tried not to let anything else bother her.

Sage was more than happy to settle down next to her, humming lightly in response to her comment and moving to wrap the blanket around them snugly. "but I want to," he mumbled on a rather tired manner. "That's my job," he noted with a slight chuckle. When she started running her hands through his hair though, he couldn't help but nestle in and eventually sort of just....drift off. It was definitely nice to sleep curled up with her again. He'd certainly missed it.
