Sage managed a grunt as a response. Well, actually, it was more of a wheeze, but he'd like to say he still had at least a tiny bit of dignity left. He was trying, he really was, to stay as calm as possible. But just staying awake proved to be more difficult than it ever had been before... probably because he was kidnapped and drug over here. He was losing blood too...not as much as when he was first shot, but it was still a decent amount. He could feel the stitches coming farther apart the more he trembled, which only cause incredibly worse pain as time went on. Not much he could do about that, though. There wasn't much he could do about anything. Anya's voice broke through the flashbacks, and while they still pounded his head, he was dimly aware that it wasn't what was actually going on. He couldn't exactly ask her to keep talking, though, so he just tried to focus on her hand holding his. His grip was rapidly diminishing, though, so he hoped she could hold on for both of them.

Anya had to sit back slightly, tilting her head up again to open up her lungs and breathe. She would struggle to be brave for both of them... but she had to. For once, it didn't look like Sage had everything handled. It was up to her for now. If anything, she wished she could move her other arm. To brave it and help him... he was bleeding again, from the bullet wound, and she was still trying to hold onto his hand, to reassure him that everything was alright. Maybe she should have let him slip away into a sleep... so that he wasn't so nervous about what was going on around him, but she was worried that if that happened, he might not wake up again. Eventually, she decided she'd rather have him scared rather than loosing too much blood, so she let go, and took a shallow breath before shifting over to his other side and using her good hand to put pressure on the wound, to hopefully stop the bleeding. She looked at him, a cautious look on her face. She still couldn't stand gore... and her dizzyness just for worse because of it. But there was nothing else she could have done to help... and she could put up with the blood, just for a little while as long as she didn't dare look at it.

Sage groaned slight when she first pressed her hand against the wound, his breath catching in his throat at the sudden wave of pain. But then it went back to what it was before, just with Anya trying to stop the bleeding. To help in any way she could. But she was there....that's really the most help she could give. Just being there. Having her with him made it slightly more bearable. As in, he wasn't going to just close his eyes and give up. He'd fight, but only because he still had someone to fight for. He hadn't realized that when Lizzie died....but he still had someone to fight for. Just because Anya didn't live with him didn't mean he couldn't fight for her, to have some purpose. He met her eyes, and while his were glassy and probably looked like he was about to pass out any second, which is what he felt like was going to happen, he tried to let her know he wasn't going to give up on her. He wasn't dying here. If he was going to die, it would be on his own terms. He didn't know why he was here, or what they'd do to him, but he wasn't going to give in to them. He was being stubborn, he knew that, and he also knew Anya hadn't seen him freaked out like this before. But even with panic coursing through his entire body and flashbacks bombarding his brain, he wasn't going to close his eyes and give up. Not here. Edited at September 6, 2022 01:47 PM by NightClan

Anya let her weight lean forwards as blood seeped from around her hand, trying a little harder to stop it. She rested her forehead on the wall behind them, closing her eyes as her vision started spinning. If she felt sick before, this was far, far worse. But she wanted to keep him with her... there was no way she was going to let him slip away. Not now, not when she needed him. She knew it would hurt him... but she would much rather he be in pain for a short while than let him slip unconscious... not now. They wouldn't be able to stitch him up again, not without a needle and thread, and it was dark, and even if they could, he was shaking... they wouldn't be able to get him still. She looked over at him when she saw him make an effort to meet her eyes. He looked so lost... yet she could see him trying... trying to stay with her. She took her head off the wall and placed a wabbly kiss on his forehead before going back to the wall, still trying to stop the blood from falling. Edited at September 6, 2022 01:56 PM by Belle

Sage could hear his breath rasp in his throat the longer time went on. He had no idea how long they'd been in the small little room, but surely Anya would have people looking for her. Surely they'd find the girl, get her out of here, bring her home. Then Sage could get out of this closet and go out with a bang. He couldn't win a fight against that many trained people with his hands bound, but he could make a lasting impression. Either way, Anya would be out of here soon. He just had to hold on until then. Until she was safe, and then after he had fufilled fighting for her, he'd fight for himself. It was really the first time he'd do that, and it seemed odd that it would be the fight that got him killed. But he was alright with that. As long as Anya was safe, anything could happen to him. He knew she cared about him, wanted to keep him awake and with her. So he tried, he really did. But it was all he could do to just keep awake. Other than that, he just lay there, trembling, trying to convince himself that the flashbacks weren't real, they weren't really happening, he would be alright. The last part was a straight up lie to himself. He knew that. But if saying that kept him with Anya, helped soothe her mind, then so be it. He'd suffer though it all as long as it helped Anya.

Soon, Anya had started slipping off into sleep... slowly, every now and then jerking herself awake, trying as hard to stay with Sage as he was for her. But she was kidding herself. She kept herself lent up against the wall, hand stuck on his shoulder as blood really started to drip... it was everywhere. All over her hands and dress, but she didn't care. This was her trying to keep Sage the best she could. She sat like that for hours, probably, still trying to gain control of her breath. She needed to be brave... to try and know what was going on. If anyone came in, she would have to be ready for that. She could deal with being dragged about a little more... but if anyone came in after Sage, she wouldn't let him go... not again. She wouldn't trust anyone here to treat either of them well... and while Anya would most likely be able to survive a bit of a battering now, it didn't seem like Sage would... not while he was shaking like a leaf. She wanted to keep him safe, and she would, even in it meant giving her life for him. Anya was normally back by morning. In enough time to be ready for whatever duties she had for the day, given, it wasn't much. Now, at this point, the maids had known about her little adventures for years, all knowing that at some point she'd run herself into trouble... but that didn't matter. They knew it was nice for her to have some freedom... so they had never said a word. Deep down, somewhere, her mother knew that she would sneak away too. There was a reason she would come back all tattered and bruised. But as long as the girl came back, no one seemed to care. Though, when she didn't show up for a family meal, or any one of her duties, there was cause for concern. So in the afternoon, after no one had seen the girl all day, alarm bells had been set off. Not by her father, not her mother for a little while, but by the guards and maids. Her mother had only really gotten involved in the evenings after no one could spy her. Thole castle had been searched, and the lower village too... but there wasn't a trace. That was when the queen really started to worry... this wasn't just the princess she had raised over the last seventeen years, but she was also her daughter. And despite all she had been put through, being promised to a man she barely knew, putting up with balls and duties she just wasn't suited to, she loved Anya, with all her heart. She had sent troops out over the night... being told to search every inch of the kingdom, not to rest until Anya had been found, and without a second thought, it had been done.

Sage could tell Anya was getting tired, though there wasn't much he could do. He knew she needed sleep, but she probably didn't trust anyone enough to fall asleep. That, and she was trying to stop the steady flow of blood from his shoulder. It would have been much worse if she wasn't putting pressure on it, he knew that, but it still was bad. He was losing too much blood....the shaking just kept tearing it open more, and no matter how much pressure Anya could put on his shoulder, it wasn't going to stop it completely. He knew his fighting was keeping him awake this long, but he wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able to stay awake. Stay present. Well, as present as he was....as in he was aware she was touching him, but not much else since his vision and hearing was going in and out. The flashbacks just repeated themselves, but by now he was barely reacting to them....he was still panicking, shaking, but he didn't have the energy or strength left to pay much attention to them. Maybe he would die here...would Anya have to stay locked up in this place with his corpse? No, no he couldn't let that happen. He'd stay alive, no matter how hard it would be.

(Ooh when they get found and end up going back to the castle we could have Sage meet Luther at some point? That'd be interesting lol) Anya stayed put for another few minutes before her shaking got a little worse and she was forced to drop back to the ground. Her whole body was trembling... but she got back up again, forcing herself to lean her body weight back onto his injury. She was hungry now... not to the extent that Sage must have been, but hungry nevertheless... but the thought of eating anything made her queasy. The blood, the dizziness, and now the idea of actually eating anything, although hungry, all made her want to spew. Just as that thought crossed her mind, the door cracked open and they were chucked two plates. She wouldn't be able to eat anything... but she could see if Sage wanted anything. Actually, she didn't really care if he wanted anything, he would eat, and if he was sick after then so be it, at least he would get some sort of nutrition from it. Given, that it was only bread and butter, so surely he could handle something so plain. She hoped so at least. She let him go for just a moment before scrambling over and picking up one plate and almost dragging herself over. She tried to hold it with her bad arm for a moment, before cursing herself and almost dropping it. So, that wasn't working. She came back to his side and placed the plate just next to him. "Can... can you try and eat something? Please?" She murmured quietly before placing her hand back on his shoulder. If he agreed, then they'd have to find a way to untie him... she was planning on undoing the knots anyway, just as soon as she had a full vision, without any of the blurs.

(I was thinking the same thing! It would be fun to have them despise eachother at first and then become best buds who go do dumb stuff together lol) Sage blinked hard, trying to understand what she had said. He heard her voice, heard it swirl around the room. Something about eating. He made a face at that. He'd already gagged up what bile was in his stomach...there was no way he'd be able to keep food down. He appreciated that she was trying to help him, but he just didn't think food was an option he could handle. He'd throw up, and then their little closet space would be even worse to be in. Besides, his hands were tied, and Anya only had one hand, and that hand was still pressing on his shoulder trying to keep him anchored here. He needed water more than food anyway, and bread would only make his mouth even more dry. No, food wasn't the best idea. If Anya was stubborn about it, he wouldn't have the energy to argue, but then again even chewing food seemed to be too much work. He could barely keep himself breathing, let alone sit up and eat something. Anya probably wouldn't eat either...he knew she would be queasy from the blood still leaking steadily from his shoulder. But the fact that she was still holding onto him was ... Incredibe, to put it quite frankly. She was more spunky than he'd originally given her credit for, and things she did just kept reminding him if that fact.

(Yeah, that could be fun! I was thinking something similar lol) Anya let a frown come along her face. She wanted at least one of them to eat what they were given. And she was covered in Sage's blood, so there was no chance of her managing to keep anything down were very low. She supposed that maybe it would be the same for Sage, not because of the blood, but because he seemed to be struggling so much to breathe. She hadn't gotten much of a reply from him, but his face was more than enough to tell her he'd pass. She furrowed her brows slightly, trying to think of something. She wanted to help more than just hold onto him, barely keeping him there. He needed more than that, but she wasn't sure what to do about it. Her breath had started to slow down, but her face was still stained with tears. They wouldn't survive like this... with the bare minimum. Depending on how long they were there, her arm would heal wrong, and Sage would either bleed to death or get an infection and lose his arm. Either of those things needed to happen. She looked at him for a moment. She was planning on making him eat something, but really, if she couldn't manage anything, then who was she to force him? She looked at him for a moment, her hand still firmly on his shoulder. "You know Sage when we either get out of here or get found, you're coming with me. I'm not going to leave you back out on the streets again just to be killed." She murmured, though she was pretty much talking to herself now.
