So it's been a while since I have RPed in a group. The last group RP I was in was nearly 10yrs ago and we kept it going for 2yrs. I have done some 1x1 RPs since then but after the last group RP ended I struggled to get any new ones going. Well, it's time for me to stop being afraid of failure and try again! Obviously, it has been a long time since I have done this sort of RP and I have never done one on HE. I may be rusty on the latest trends, shorthand, styles, etc. but I can write well and I'm eager to build new stories. I look forward to RPing with you!

The Plot

A dystopian, somewhat post-apocalyptic, society where the world has laid in ruin for so long that no one quite remembers how they got there. The fallen world is just the way life is, and it's future is grim. As former cities and homes crumble, wildlife grows more and more dominant, reclaiming the territories of their ancestors. What remains of humanity lives primarily in the shells of cities, fighting each other tooth and nail for territory. Food is scarce. You can pillage old homes and stores in the city and fight other strays for those scraps, or you can try farming outside the city and fight with wildlife. Clean and hot water are luxuries long forgotten. The weak do not survive in this world. It's just not possible. Not here. And the innocent don't stay that way for long.

But...

What if they did?

It started when a small band of teenagers came together. They helped each other survive and built a haven to better survive. Then these teenagers grew up into adults. They survived the wasteland of the world and kept their humanity, their empathy and hope. And they're guided by a dream. What if they could change the world? Or at the very least, see the first few dominoes fall toward a brighter future? They could restore light and order to a world of chaos and darkness! But where would they start?

With the weak, of course! Nothing inspires a brighter future like the innocence and hopefulness of a child. And nobody is weaker than the youth of this world. Orphaned by the darkness, most of this world's children have seen their fair share of bloodshed. They've been pushed around, are constantly starving or getting sick, getting hurt... In order to survive they either have to risk stealing from larger, stronger gangs or risk hunting in the wilds. Or...stoop to scavenging.

But what if they didn't have to?

The hopeful adults turn their safe haven into a shelter. Their plan is to rescue as many children as they can get their hands on. Bring them to Haven. Give them a roof over their head, an actual bed to sleep in, warm blankets, hot meals, clean water, and teach them how to fight and speak so that they may never fear being killed or starving to death. Protect them from dangers and provide them with the tools to succeed on their own one day. Show them how empathy can restore light to the world and how the bonds they build today will build a brighter future down the road.

Maybe these adults are too hopeful. Maybe they're just too ambitious. But maybe...just maybe, they can be the first step toward a new world.

But will they live to see it?

The World

The City and The Wilds

Takes place on the outskirts of an unnamed city. The city is teaming with small gangs usually led by guys who think with their muscles not their heads. They aren't too nice and are incredibly territorial. Along with the gangs are rogue individuals who will steal from and take advantage of anyone! If they can get away with it, they'll do it with zero hesitation. Outside the city is a surburban area being gradually overtaken by nature. Squirrel, rabbits, and deer are common game one could hunt if you're brave enough to fight the wild dogs, wolves, coyotes, cougars, bobcats, and bears that are starting to reclaim their species old territories.

Haven

The adults' base is currently in an old warehouse near a river. The river protects them from wildlife from the suburban area and the warehouse is far enough away from the center of the city so as not to draw any gang attention. Inside, they've converted the open space into separate areas for various purposes. In the back right corner is their makeshift infirmary. This is also where the only working shower is. Space and water are limited so showers must be scheduled (except in emergencies). In the back left corner is the supply storage and makeshift kitchen. The manager rooms in the front of the warehouse are the bedrooms of the adults. They have dragged in small storage buildings to use for the rooms of the kids, giving them some privacy from the adults. These buildings are fortified inside so that if they are ever attacked the kids can safely barrade themselves inside while the adults do all the fighting. Most of these buildings are in the front right portion of the warehouse. The front left side of the warehouse is an open space with tables for eating, playing games, working on projects, etc. Outside the warehouse, there is a large garden on the side nearest the river. On top of the warehouse is a guard post. They don't usually keep watch during the day since they can see what's around them but there is usually a guard stationed overnight.

These formerly rescued kids have long since settled into life at Haven and many of them refer to the adults that they're close to as mom and dad. As they are getting older, these kids are training to become the next adults of Haven and carry on their adoptive parents' legacy in rescuing others and building a brighter future. They may be transitioning to adulthood but they are still kids at heart.

Urchins

10-15yrs

The most unfortunate. The lowest of the low. The unlucky and the cursed. Permanently maimed and disabled, these kids don't usually have long to live. It's hard enough surviving on your own, but surviving with an injury? Nearly impossible! They tend to be the most trusting of the strays as they have the least to lose. They respond well to acts of kindness as they've known so little.

Wolves

13-18yrs

(a little older and tougher, mean almost, love to fight)

These kids are strong enough and sturdy enough, maybe even dumb enough, to take a beating. They tend to fight first and ask questions later. Because they're able to take a punch as well as they throw one, they tend to be rather stubborn and will hold their ground in conflicts. They tend not to respect anyone unless the other person manages to beat them in a fight, they'll respect the stronger party. While they appear to be unruly and independent, they are usually won over with free food. Their strength means that they burn a lot of calories, and in this world with limited food that means they are almost always hungy. Offer them some food and they might just follow you home.

Rats

13-18yrs

(wirey and smart, untrusting, avoid conflicts, look for opportunities)

There is a lot of variety in these kids. They can be smart, not needing physicality to survive. They can be fast, able to outrun any situation. Or they can be a bit of both. Due to their intelligence and speed, they've been able to watch a lot of groups from the shadows and they know that humans are just as bad as any wild dog or wolf. They tend to be extremely wary when approached and skeptical when offered free things as they realize that it could be a trap. They respond best to being shown respect and being offered deals, working for their food and shelter makes more sense to them than random acts of kindness. They may be skeptical of kind deeds but also curious. Because who in the world would help them out, not wanting anything in return?

Appearance: Cade has short, slightly curly blonde hair. It's knotted and tangled, resembling someone who got struck by lightning, part of the reason for his nickname. He isn't tall, an average 5'4, but he's skinny, both from malnutrition and genetics. He has blue eyes and freckles dotting his face. He has pale skin, but not so pale he looks sick.

Personality: Cade is not trusting in any way. His anxiety is heightened by the dystopian world so he doesn't talk to anyone. He's fast, faster than most, and he uses it to his advantage. He doesn't bother trading for things, he steals, it works better for him. On the off chance he does make an alliance he is extremely loyal. He is also very territorial of his stuff. Unlike most rats he'll stand his ground if he thinks there's a chance he could win a dispute.

History: Cade was born to a single mother. He has no siblings. When he was 8 his mom died in a fight, this is where Cade learned that he was fast, he was able to out run his moms attackers. Cade ran away from the old house that he had called home and learned how to steal, run, hide, and fight. Cade learned how to survive and he learned how to survive alone. He had an alliance with another rat, if they saw each other they would trade food and supplies. Then there was an incedent, driving him and the other rat to trust each other. Over the months and weeks they had racked up quite a reputation together.

Other: Cade's biggest wish is that this dystopian world is all just a dream and that a portal will open up and take him back to the before-world. He knows that it's never going to happen, but he dreams about it nonetheless.

Appearance: Wren has ear length, red, curly hair. She is 5’6 with a lean, muscular frame. She had slightly dark blue eyes, tanned skin, and several scars on her face and body from previous fights. Her hair is short to prevent others grabbing and yanking it during a fight. Her face is littered in freckles from spending so much time in the sun.

Personality: Wren isn’t what you would call brave, more stubborn, strong, and stupid. If there’s food involved she’s blindly trusting. She’s not one to turn down a fight, especially if there are resources involved. She’s strong and she knows it, making her stubborn. She knows that she can probably win the fight and if she can’t? She hasn’t thought that far ahead yet. If she finds a friend or alliance she’ll stick with them, better to have company than to die alone.

History: When Wren was born her mom died, leaving her and her 3 siblings alone with her dad. Her dad was exploitative, making her and her siblings go out and find food, water, and resources. Her brother died fighting for water and her father died after getting an infected cut. Her two older sisters raised her before Wren ran away, knowing that the three of them living together wasn’t sustainable. She’s lived alone ever since.

Other: Her wish is to maybe try and fix the world. She knows it’s probably not possible but if there’s even a slight chance, she’ll take it.

Appearance: (Do you mind if I do it in a bit of a different way? If not I can erase it and put it back. I do know you said do not chang the formatting, and I will not. It will stay the same and it will explain the appearance.)

Hair - He has black, curly hair. It curls around his head, but is shaved on the sides. Many kids like him have this haircut, it sort of... symbolizes his rank.

Eyes - He has dark green eyes, they would be like the forest, in the middle of the night.

Skin - He has pale white skin

Birthmarks - He has one birthmark on his left inner wrist, just a random dot of darker skin.

Scars - He has scars lining his body, mainly his torso They were from constant beain beaten around, considering he was not in a wealthy family.

Other - Adrien is somewhat average for his age, only at 5'10. Although, he has a skinny build, he is stronger then he looks. But not... strong strong.

Personality: Adrien is quiet and perceptive, he can easily spot ways to get around things. Which would make him a wonderful theif. He is a manipulative person, causing him to get into a lot of trouble. He can come off as nervous and shy at first, but don't underestimate his ability to manipulate and hit a nerve. He also comes off as ruthless at times

History: Adrien was born to a family of drunkards, like everyone else in the world. When he was 8 his parents drifted, they barely looked his way, let alone talked to him. They seemed to try and act like he didn't exist. So he would slip onto the streets, during the day he roamed, during the night he did so as well. He did have to go home to make sure his parents did call the police- or whatever. So, he lived his time on the streets, gaining the name 'Phantom' by the people. He began sneaking into bars and manipulating people into trading him food and water for him to do business for them. And that worked and became his main source of supplies. While on a job once, he met another rat, who he became... friends with. They didn't stick around each other, but whenever their paths did cross, they always helped each other out. Adrien figured if anyone he could trust, another male rat his age would be the person to do so. They needed some way to survive, and they needed each other. But after an... incident, they begin to rely on each other more and more. Completing business deals that Adrien got them. Known as Phantom and Bolt.

Other: His biggest regrt is trusting a certain person (SPOOKY) and his greatest wish is he hopes to see Cade/Bolt grow up with him, in a world that they don't have to always worry about survival.

Appearance: Everine has white hair flowing down her back to her waist. It is silky and always has the ends cut healthily. She has hazel brown eyes, that are like a soilly light brown. Everine stands at a shorter height, only 5'6. She has only a few scars on her upper arms and no birthmarks. She has a curvy build with evenly sized arms and legs. She is always seen wearing a red ring on and a feather earring. She does her makeup, but only to add two pin teardrops next to her eyes, that give here a welcoming feel for some reason.

Personality: Everine is kind and caring. She is grateful the Haven is running and even more so that she can give these kids a place to live, since she had once been one. She can be stern at times, but only if someone did something and she needed to make sure they wouldn't again.

Appearance: The first thing you would notice about Elliott is how skinny he is- bones visible in every part of his body and a short, small frame due to malnutrition. The second? His arm, decorated with deep gashes and visibly infected. It will need amputation at the least. His skin is sickly pale, almost gray, and he radiates feverish heat constantly. His eyes are dark brown, blending with his pupils. His hair is dark brown and overgrown, falling out in clumps.

Personality: At the moment, he is a little zombie-like in his illness and nearing death. He is weak and an easy target for others. When he was healthy, he had always been more of a listener than a talker, but that wouldn't stop him from engaging in a conversation. He is unsure of who he really is as he's always put on a different personality for every interaction, and has never really had a long-term relationship with any person.

History: He never really knew his father. His mother was ill his whole life and died soon after his birth, so he basically became the provider as soon as he was born. Being young and weak, he couldn't hunt or fight, so he resorted to stealing. He stole from everyone and everything, becoming somewhat of an expert and was rarely caught. That was until he stole part of a deer carcass from a mountain lion and she found him. That's how he got the wounds on his arm.

Other: He doesn't really have the strength to hope or dream, but all he really wants is to be able to be calm and peaceful, and not constantly be on the lookout for the next predator. He'll deny it, but he also wishes for a connection, for another person to care for him.

Appearance: She's very compact, built very small and short. She is significantly more healthy-looking than a stray, but still wiry and lean-muscled from her days as a Rat. Her hair is shaggy and fluffy and reaches to her shoulders. Naturally, she was a blonde, but she uses dye from berries and herbs to keep it at a steady pinkish-ginger. Her skin is very fair, prone to burn and her shoulders and cheeks have become evenly freckled. Her eyes are icy blue, mischievous and smart-looking.

Personality: She's wary of strangers and jumpy from her wild days. Until she gets to know you, she appears standoffish and cold. Once she's familiar with you, though, she’s a total sweetheart. She’s playful and funny, and really, really cares. Once you’re safe with her, you’re locked in for life. She really wants to become a doctor and often volunteers with the nurses. She has a brain for science and is very quick to pick up patterns and evidence.

History: Her father was a gang member and her mother was addicted to any drug she could get her hands on. Her three older brothers got in fights and were injured regularly, so Luna ended up being her family’s medic. Obviously she had no sort of training and was just expected to heal, so she found her own way with plants and herbs and whatever she could find. She ended up running away out of fear when she was about 13 and barely survived on her own before being approached by a Haven member at 15. She came out of her own curiosity and desperation, and found it was all she never knew she wanted.

Other: She wants to change. She wants to matter, and she wants people to not be so pitted against each other. She wants to not have to jump at a loud noise or fear every stranger. She wants her children to be born in peace and not have to suffer the things she did.
