If the color quest also requires a certain raring, then you must rate the horse, but gene testing for the color part is not necessary.
The game knows if the genetics meet the quest requirement or not

In the store you need to have "Store Credits"

You'll find this on the store page, just above the items:

"Redeem Store Credits Here.

Purchase items with the Credits you get from releasing horses.You have xxxxx Store Credits."

You can also buy credits with ebs on the bottom of the page.

It's a 1:1 ratio
