That's how I was the other week. Coming home from grocery shopping there was a dog on the side of the freeway. So I pulled over. Called CHP.
Even with other people helping we could catch her.
I just didn't want her getting hit or cause a wreck.

How to increase quality of ratings in my program? September 2, 2017 07:28 AM

I have plenty of horses with decent ratings and they train well, but it seems that I still can't even get on the small stable best breeders leaderboard. I really want to increase the quality of my herd but it seems that despite good foal production, it's not enough. So, what do you think is a good way to step up the quality a bit? No one really sells their "good" mares, so I'm not sure where I can buy a nice one unless it's extremely expensive. I was thinking I might try to look into the Adam's auctions and buy some wild young PEE+ combo mares if they pop up, because it's new blood and they might have more quality. What would you do in my situation? Thanks for anyone who offers their help :)

I read a while back to steer clear of Adam's auctions, because the (don't quote me) horses in it are FR'd and end up being poor in training and/or producing from Hyrim's Breeding Guide I believe. I think the best bet would post on here looking for some good mares, of course the better the quality the more $$$$.

I think it's just a rigorous system of culling and trying to match, and doing it year after year. Hope I might have helped

That's true, I guess maybe I just need more patience :D I do breed to ABLB studs as often as I can, and all of my mares are strictly managed. I think I will still look into the young wilds at the Adam's auctions though, because some of them were released unrated and/or were never bred yet. Thank you for your help!

Honestly, don't worry about the Top Breeders LB. Go look at the top stables. A few make sense, like Brinely, most of the others make no sense at all as to why they are at the top.

I took a look at your stable and you really are doing very well. 2 EEE foals this year, which is alot more then most players.

If you are looking to add more numbers to your herd, you can look at Adam's auction. Just pay attention to a mare's breeding record, and pedigree. There are many various reason a horse is free ranged, usually they are because they aren't producing well enough, so just watch out for weak stock. You can still find some good ones every once in a while.

Another way to build some stock is to get straws from the best stallions you can afford and use them on good broods.

Thanks a lot Nvyanne, I'm glad you feel that my stable is doing well so far :) I think that's probably one of the best solutions, a nice ABLB straw and a good brood. I know I have seen other players get some awesome broods from brood auctions on the forum!

You can't assume that all the horses from Adam's are weak. Many come from free accounts who FR the horse unrated. Last week, there was a wild EEE PON stallion who ended producing 2 EEEs, a few PEE combos and landed at #5 on the PON eventing board.

If you're using ABLB stallions and you're still getting not so good foals, take a look at your mares. Cull out any with excessive weaknesses or poor foal records. You don't have to sell/FR them since you can still make a bit of money off brooding them. The end result is still removing them out of your personal breeding herd.

I was wondering this myself, so I looked around and read somewhere to buy cheap PPP fillies from LB stallions. Three of the ones I bought flopped, but the fourth produced a PEE her first year. You just have to look around and get rid of some of the mares who aren't producing :)

Building on Eury's point:
https://horseeden.com/horse.php?id=11386934
This girl was from Adam's Auction. Now a 2x EEE producer, 5x PEE producer, and a 1x EEP producer. It is a gamble when you buy from auctions where they are untested or have had a single foal, but if you have the money, go for it.
Nv also has a point when it comes to leaderboards.
As for building quality in your stable, don't focus on the ratings of the foals produced. You don't want one line of strong horses, throwing constant EEEs/PEE combos, but you also want those EEEs and combos to produce. No, it doesn't have to be the next Vat, but if they produce well enough to keep this system going, keep them.
Along with that, you don't have the purchase a mare to get a foal from them. There are plenty of broods, and while they are also a gamble, and do take quite a bit of money, it could always be worth the gamble. Who knows, you could get a nice shiny EEE out of it.

Thank you so much everyone! I think I will try proven public broods with nice ABLB straws, and then I'll look for good wild unbred mares in the adam's auctions. It is extremely expensive but I think that's the only way to get better!

Be careful with public broods. "Proven" and "public" rarely go together. Usually, public broods are going to be the reject mares with lousy training and can't produce well. So, make sure to look them over with a fine tooth comb. Especially look at their production and what type of stallion they were bred to.

That being said, browse the forum auctions. Players will sometimes brood out LB mares, just be prepared to pay a shiny mint.
