I haven't seen nor spoken to him in 3 months now since I blocked him which is a big win but alas, it is still not easy :P small victories though. I do feel bad for his gf, who he isn't loyal to, and hope she catches him and leaves him someday.

Puck - She thought Florida would be the best spot to get her foot in the door as far as horses go. Instead middle aged women told her she has no hope and should just go home 🙃

Sun - I total get the leaving home due to mental health. I have felt better since leaving Alberta. I loved the province but I needed a step away from the people and my connections

That's why I left home too Lilly, my mental health had gone to shit. Then I met a dude here and it continued to be shit but I finally broke away from him and have slowly but surely been doing better. But I know moving back home would not be good in the long run for me, so everything just kind of sucks right now LOL

To cull or not? Based on foal production and breed January 2, 2021 06:11 PM

In short, if I want to promote 'good breeders' based on foal production, do I use the same standard for RID and KNN as for the popular TB breed?
Or should I use a less strict standard for less popular or less common breeds, like RID or KNN? What other breeds would this apply to? I don't know if ratings 'stabilize' or become any 'less random' as they become more common in HEE. I think breeds can gradually become 'stronger' in traits, thus also ratings, with good selective breeding over time. Yet, my current understanding is that good ratings does not necessarily mean a horse will be a 'good breeder' by their foal production.
Do color/pattern breeders (for Sabino, Appaloosa, etc.) usually forgo 'good breeders' for foal production ratings?
.
I personally attempt to use Hyrim Canyon Stable's online HEE guide, which counts PPP foals as 'good ratings'. I know it's a bit outdated, but it seems to work well enough for my main goal of PPP short PONs with bravery. However, everyone is welcome to use whatever criteria they wish for culling. https://hyrimcanyon.weebly.com/culling.html
.
I'm not so concerned with how one culls, so much as whether one standard is ideal or not to actually use for all HEE breeds.
.
Examples of horses I am considering culling that weren't already free-ranged (up for sale): https://horseeden.com/horse.php?id=24630662 RID

Even the harder breeds, if you're going for ratings, I don't keep anything below PEE combos. If you can only afford PEP+, then look at training. If it's not all up week five it's gone.

With weaker breeds like RIDs I make some allowances concerning training though I take it as a hint of how strong or weak a horse might be. My main culling factor is production and I cull all breeds just the same. Any horse that can't produce its own rating or better at least 75% of the time, is a goner (assuming the mare was sent to decent studs and matched well). In my experience it works quite well for all breeds and ratings.

I don't necessarily cull my horses, as such. I don't get rid of them if they are poor producers. They simply get demoted to gelding making machines, instead of going for ratings with them.
