The litter was born on Aug. 19th. My co-owner wants something that really sticks out and itÂ’s so hard to find one that I know she will like :/ her older half sister is currently climbing our owner handler groups in All Breeds so it really has to pop

Anyone have any Mythical show name ideas? I show AKC dogs and canÂ’t seem to come up with a name for my girl. Call name is Willow

To use the BM or to not? October 20, 2022 08:48 PM

I do not like showing. No matter how many guides I read and no matter how many times I ask for help I still get overwhelmed about it. There for I resorted to using my BM to show my horses thinking it would be the easy solution, all I had to do was assign horses to her and she did the rest. It unfortunately seems to not be working in my favour though.

I have my BM set to only show competitive horses, but even with that setting I still feel like I am never ever making a profit. Every morning when I log on and check my placing I rarely have a horse placing 4th or higher. I know showing is the way to get ebs but when I loose money showing it doesn't really seem worth it. I currently have 35 horses entered with her, all ranging from my bravery horses with low ratings to my WWE breeding stock. While I know lots of my horses are lvl 1 due to the fact I have been breeding my own showing stock opposed to buying I still feel like the lvl 2+ horses just are not pulling their weight.

So I guess what I am wondering, is should I continue to use my BM and wait it out or should I go back to manually showing? I feel like my BM could have potential if all 35 horses where lvl 2+ but I can't really afford to wait around until all my high level horses outweigh my low level horses. But if I go back to manually showing how do I keep track of when everyone is ready to show? I understand showing a horse in the green equals profit but how do I get a horse in the green? What do I do once a horse lvls up and falls back out of the green? There has to be a more simple and straight forward way to show for those of us that are busy and hate math. Every time I have tried to show manually it only last a couple weeks until I give up out of frustration because none of my horses are in the green.

As I try to start my own SD breeding program and really start to try to get a more steady income showing is going to have to become second nature opposed to a stressful and dreadful time. So any help is very much appreciated!

I've had so much more luck showing by hand. If you even read Eury's showing guide, she's not really fit to use with methods like these.
Plus, it's less money out of your pocket monthly. Showing by hand is really easy with the "easy show" method in your barn sorting tab. :)
I know there's so much more that could be said, but my brain is really set on books, LOLL.
Edit: When you factor in how much you spend, and make.. make sure youre factoring in your weekly rider fees, your monthly hay expenses, cycle suppressant (if any), etc.. you always want to add that in, as it REALLY makes a difference. Again, I do seriously suggest Eurys showing guide. Its been the only thing that works for me relatively.
Anywhore, very good luck to you! <3

I personally use BM on this account and every single one of my side accounts. I hate manually showing with a passion. Most of my geldings are not high rated and were bought extremely cheaply (under 500ebs a piece)

Have you checked your accountant to see if you actually *are* losing money? Or is it just a feeling?
For example, I often feel like I'm not making money showing. But when I actually look at the numbers, I am actually bringing in money. My BM is currently handling 200 horses (she's set to only enter competitive horses) - mostly geldings, a few breeding horses.
Here are my numbers:
Day 1: spent 143k on entering shows, earned 204k
Day 2: spent 147k on entering, earned 204k
Day 3: spent 133k on entering, earned 181k
In one week that's an income of 166k. In a perfect world where everything stays the same, that would be 664k in a month/nearly 8mil per year.

In my opinion, I would just hang in there and keep using the BM - especially since you don't like manually showing. Try to build up a gelding army of 200 (or close to it) and you'll start to feel the impacts of showing/having a BM. It's the very first thing I do when I start a new side account.

I have found that horses generally don't start making money by showing until about level 4, and that the cost of paying riders doesn't really pay off unless the horse is PPP+ (or E+ for SD). As someone who reeeeally dislikes showing by hand, I prefer using the BM to enter them on Mon/Tue/Wed. And then, if I have time, I will go through on thur/friday to enter any that placed green on one of the days, but was not competitive enough to show on another. Basically I swith to the Show view for the barn and enter any horses that have green. it's not as effective as manually entering, but it's a heck of a lot less tedius.
