When I worked at the shelter we scanned the whole damn body for a chip and 99% of them had none.
Even with surrenders we checked because dog theft is a problem here.
We were always happy to return dogs to breeders as long as the person could confidently prove they bred the dog.
But without a chip or anything there would be times we would deny.

Oh my. They have no money to begin with and are nonprofits.
The one I worked at did everything they could to reunite animals with owners or past owners. Because there is no space.

Lately there are so many people leaving animals at the gate during off hours. Come to work to find a box of puppies, or a box of kittens dumped over the fence.

People brought in animals as "strays" when clearly it was their pet because they didn't want to pay the surrender fee.
We had one that was so sick and dying from cancer, but we couldn't help her for three days because she was a "stray" and there's a hold in case the owner shows up. She suffered for three days because the owner couldn't do the right thing. And took the easy way out.

I have had MANY dogs UNNEUTERED/spayed and NONE of them developed cancer/health problems. Ear copping can prevent injury for a working dog. Kangals mostly fight off wolves and coyotes so it prevents a yote or wolf from ripping it off in a fight.

Te shelter probably wouldn't know that. Not all breeder chip their puppies with their info andwith about of dogs they get they I doubt they would know to check.

And- it is not common practice here for breeders to chip their dogs unfortunately.

cropping is also big in dog fights, so people usually associate cropped ears or tails with the fighting ring.
