Now that EP did such a nice thread about culling, I thought I can post my way how to show horses.
I have a quite medium sized stable with a total of about 800 horses - but still managed somehow to stay in in the front part of the "most earning and points" leaderboards for some years. So maybe it is not the very wrongest way, how I do

First of all:
no - I don´t show all ponnies - but almost
Usually I show only the "green ones" ... and some where I suppose that they will place in the money.

Additional explanations for newer players:
Every horse starts off at the bottom of the level it is trained in. So at this stage it will place poorly and cost money instead of earning. You can train the horses weekly and depending of its ratings it will start placing better after approximately 4 training sessions for a premium rated horse. Then it will stay in the money for another 4-6 weeks and place better every week. When it has reached a certain training level it will level up to the next level and start from the very bottom there again.
Most of my very good single discipline show horses start winning a little money after only 3 week´s training, all discipline horses usually have to train at least 4-5 weeks after they leveled.
You can see on the "show view" page of the barns, how the horses placed in their last shows. And the ones that placed 8th or better are shown in green letters. When it places 9th - 12th or it has leveled up, the date and placings are shown in brown color. So you can easily see how long ago the horse was shown in a discipline and according to the ratings and trainings you can learn how fast again a horse will likely be to win again.
Additional you can take a look at the training bars ( which I do not do any more for ages ) and if e.g a dressage trained horse has at least a total of 6 bars ( or 7 ) in Mv+Int+Str it will probably place in the money. With a total of 8-9 bars it will level up and with a total of 12-13 bars it will place again ... and so on.

Back to my way for the Single Discipline Horses:

Usually I train most of my geldings and some outstanding mares on CS in their best discipline.
Advantage is, that they train up faster, level faster and bring in my main money. When they become Schoolmaster at an average age of 13 - 15yo they are automatically trained up well enough in the next discipline that I can switch disciplines from e.g. Level 10 XC to Level 7 in J and after some weeks training the horse is at Level 8 (and Qualifyer once again, because they have enough federation points in Jumping, too, with my system)
All my single discipline horses are entered into their Federation - but I would only recommend this when your stable has enough money left each month, because my federation fees are summing up to a pretty 1,5 mio ebs each year

I have all my single discipline horses on the BM at Mo / Tue / Wed. So she will enter all these horses into the regular shows when they are ready to show. At Thursday I take a look in these barns and enter all horses into the Saturday special shows that were shown by the BM 3 times that week - unless they leveled up.
Then I go through these barns on the easy show enter page and additionally enter them in their main discipline when the last show was more than 2 weeks ago and they did not level in the meantime. So today is 10th June. If I have a premium rated dressage horse that has its last dressage result like D5 21/05-10 I will show it in D5 this week even if the BM did not show that horse.
If this horse shows in the money I will see it in green on Friday and Saturday and I will show it 3 times in the main discipline and additionally enter it into the spec show for Saturday.
By this way, about 60-70% of my single discipline horses are shown in their main disipline every week.

On Thursday I additonally take a look at the other 30 - 40% of the single discipline horses that did not show in the main discipline due to lack of training in this discipline. But usually they have enough training to place well in one of the other two ( lower level) disciplines. So if I have a dressage horse, that does not place well in D, I keep it training in D but show it in either XC or J up to three times on Thu / Fri / Sat. After another 2-3 weeks training it will be ready to show in the main discipline again, but in the meantime it earns money and federation points in the other disciplines, too.

In exactly the same way I enter my Qualifyer and Schoolmaster barns in their main disciplines by hand from Mo - Wed, if they are green or placed 10th in their last show 2 weeks ago. If they place in the money, they are added to the spec show string for that week, too. Those that do not show or place great in the main discipline, I enter in the other disciplines from Thu - Sat depending on their rating and training levels. The Qualifyers have their additional show every Tuesday night where I always enter ALL Quali-horses no matter if they win or loose because I`m too lazy to look at 100+ horse pages. But as they usually bring in another 150k net gain per week, I can afford some 9. - 12. places in this case.

Now to the all discipline trained horses in my stable:

I train all my breeding stock and a barn full with eventing geldings in all disciplines.
I want my breeding stock to show all their strenghts and weaknesses clearly, and this only works with training in all disciplines.
My eventing geldings are mostly my gelded stallion prospects that did not do well with their test mares as a 3yo or some old, retired mares or stallions. I only keep those geldings as eventers that do train up quite fast and as even as possible. If they show significant weaknesses or do not place regular in all 3 disciplines, I´d switch them to a single discipline after about 20 training sessions.

I show my Eventers and the stallion barns in D/XC /J on Mo/Tue/Wed by hand. I show each pony that places 1. - 4. in at least one discipline in the other two disciplines, too, to get them eventing points in that week. And I enter them into the Specs on Saturday in every discipline they place well. All Eventers and Stallions are entered into the Eventing Federation as soon as they reach level 3 - so it is really important to show them regulary in each discipline per week.

From Thursday - Sunday I additionally go through every barn and enter my mares in the shows they are green in or if they did not show for at last 4 weeks time and I enter all mares into the spec shows, too, in the disiplines they placed better than 8th.

I know that this system sounds very long-winded - but I have my system established how to go through the barns and how to enter the specs. It takes me an average time of 10-20 minutes per day to enter all horses that have to be shown on that day. I´m used to enter the specs on Sunday from the show result report page (150 - 200 horses, 30 minutes time ) - and then additional horses during week

Usually I think I make about 500k - 700k ebs profit per week - even without any member shows - and I always used to enter about 1500 shows per week - even before the cap was established. And all my horses are entered into Federations - which costs me a lot of money every year - but therefore every Level 8 horse is ready for Qualifying shows automatically

When I have some great futurity colts, they always earn an additional pretty penny!
But I stopped doing junior rider shows due to more real life work because it took me too long time to enter another 200+ shows per week from the horse´s pages. But they always made at least 150k net gain per week, too.

Besides, I have all my riders set to all disciplines for several years now, because I did not see a lot of difference in the earnings. On the first day of the month I go through all of them, put the right level horses to the right level riders, keep only Level 9 riders with less than 840 skill points and I do not reassign them until the next month. So I can be sure that no rider retires during the month and all horse/rider combos earn enough points for the federation championships. And I´m rather getting used to reassign my riders BEFORE I enter my horses into their federations

Congrats to everybody, who managed to read this long essay - and roses to everyone who managed to unterstand my blah and could follow my way of showing. And those who still have some questions or even improvement tips for me - please feel free to post here or PM me

Sorry but how do you figure out when a horse levels up or is ready too, is there a number you hit then it puts your horse to the next level like is it the number of training sessions, the amount of points the horse gets, the amount of wins or maybe the amount of show entered that makes it "level up" and i assume level up is when the eventing/D/XC/J level goes up?

#2 How do you figure out how long it takes before your horse is trained enough to be shown again after it level's up?

Sorry if the question don't make sense :(

This actually clarifies a few things for me. I also forget about special shows so thanks for the reminder.

This is what I've done:
- Kept all my breeding stallions/mares in the all discipline categories
-> <font class="mainlineblack">Since I'm a free stable, all of my breeding stallions/mares are being put up for public stud/brood so I can use them as a small income every game year.
- Geldings with an Elite in one of their ratings, has their discipline changed to that specific competition until they're level 8 or 9, then I switch them to one of the other 2 comps.
- Geldings with all ratings as PPP are automatically changed into the jumping discipline, then move onto cross when they reach level 8 or 9 in jumping, and so on with cross to dressage.

* The above makes it sound like I've been doing it for a while, but nope XD - just started doing this like 10 minutes ago. Asked a few questions in chat, got an idea on how to show more properly each week, and went from there. I'm hoping that this above showing way will earn me a lot of ebs each week as I feel sad when I look at my account and see a loss for the day or week. lol

Why would you change discipline when the horse is lv 8 or 9? You might as well wait till they are lv 10...and then make more profit in higher lv shows...

Should I keep all PPP geldings showing and training AD, or can some go SD?

I just show everything three times a week. Some SD, some of the younger ones all. I do not spend a lot of time agonising over which one to show, I just show the hell out of all of them. I turn a tidy profit each week

Ive been told that the barn manager is not efficient in entering horses that are ready and that you make more ebs by entering yourself. Is that true?

The BM shows about 3/4 of my horses per week and brings in a great profit. If I usually spend 200k per day showing, I come back to a 100k profit. (300k gross, 100k net.) Maybe I'd do better myself, but she sure saves me some time.
