Hi there, this is a side account of Sagamore Farms that ive started up just as a little bit of fun. I dont have plans for it, but my first goal was to make a fair bit of money so that I can upgrade, start a program, etc. In doing this I realized someone might find interest in how I am trying to build up an adequate show-infastrucutre as quickly and as profitably as possible on a standard, 50k starting free account. Abs on Elite Perfection did something along these lines a few years ago on a larger scale, so here is my take on a teeny tiny free account.

Basically, I am going to discuss my original thought process and why I purchased the horses that I did, and then give weekly updates of profits so people can see the natural progression of a gelding army and just how important and easy it is to have a show-based profit source. Enjoy!

__________________
Obviously, when you first make an account you are given 50k and two free wilds. FR those two wilds and you start with 52k and a 25 stall barn. Plenty to work with!

With those funds, I personally decided to buy 20 geldings, but I was picky with what I chose. Since im going for speed and efficiency, I knew I wanted E single discipline geldings with 5-6 weeks of training under their belt. E horses are first ready to show at 5-6 weeks, so I knew if I bought 2 year olds who were at those levels, they would be profitable on my very first day. So we hunt!

I was able to find 5 or so geldings for 2500 with 9 training sessions (a total steal, IMO) and another 15 for 1500 with 6 sessions. In total, I spent about 35,000 on geldings, leaving me plenty of room to spare. Since they all had adequate training, every one was in the green upon entering them into their first shows. That resulted in the following as my first week showing log.

MAY 4th
IN: You entered 20 horses into reg. shows for 6500
OUT: You had 20 horses compete in reg. shows earning 11109.

PROFIT: 4609

MAY 5th
IN: You entered 19 horses into reg. shows for 6160.
OUT: You had 19 horses compete in reg. shows earning 12663.

PROFIT: 6503

MAY 6th
IN: You entered 20 horses into reg. shows for 6500.
OUT: You had 20 horses compete in reg. shows earning 14028.

PROFIT: 7528

TOTAL SHOWS ENTERED: 60
TOTAL WEEKLY PROFIT: 18640
So, we can see that I made a decent profit in my very first week, and am on a clear trajectory to recovering my full investment.

One reason I chose lower level geldings is because of rider bills. Since I only have level 1s and 2s, my bill is only a few hundred a week, so it doesnt make much of a dent in my profits or measley bank account. However, this entire process would work with higher levels geldings, just be prepared for those extra costs.

Thats my contribution for now, I will update tomorrow with this weeks show results. If you have questions on anything, post below and ill do my best to answer.

Were in guides now! Fun!

Here is this weeks showing results - you can see how many horses I entered each night and how much profit I made each time.

MAY 10th

IN: You entered 19 horses into reg. shows for 6200.

OUT: You had 19 horses compete in reg. shows earning 12306.

PROFIT: 6,106

MAY 11th

IN: You entered 16 horses into reg. shows for 5300

OUT: You had 16 horses compete in reg. shows earning 10353

PROFIT: 5,053

MAY 12th

IN: You entered 14 horses into reg. shows for 4600.

OUT: You had 14 horses compete in reg. shows earning 9303.

PROFIT: 4,703

TOTAL SHOWS ENTERED: 49

TOTAL WEEKLY PROFIT: 15,862

So, its obviously evident that I not only entered less shows this week than last, but also made less money. This is because a few of my geldings levelled up, so they wont be ready to show for a few weeks. The majority stayed green for the whole week, though, so i'm pleased with that.

For some reference, this account is only just over a week old and already has 88,000 ebs on it. My profits are probably going to plateau next week or the week after as most of the geldings will level, but that sum of money isnt half bad for just a week with 20 geldings! Plus, im only a few hundred dollars shy of entirely overhauling my 35,000 gelding investment. Cant get much better than that!

Until next time :)

How do peeps know when they needs to stop showing the geldings to level up? And how to know when they are ready again.

Somewhat of a loaded question, but ill do my best to answer!

Basically, horses place 1-7 when they are in the middle to end of training through a level. Once they start a new level they will place low as they still have to learn those new "skills." They wont be as seasoned as horses they are competing against, and thus wont preform well against them. You want to try to only show horses who place 1-7 as their winnings will be more than what you paid for their entry, aka profit.

When you are on the showing view page of a barn, you will see that the only horses that show up green will be horses who placed 1-7, but you might also see horses with 1-7 placings recorded but who arent green colored. That is what indicates to you that a horse has levelled the night before, and you shouldnt show it, as it wont place well anymore.

Horses level naturally through training, and their levelling isnt affected much by showing. So alot of showing is making educated guesses as to whether or not a horse has enough training in their level to place well. I like to wait 4 weeks from when an Elite horse levelled to re enter them into shows, and 5 weeks from when a Premium horse levelled.

So, for example, this E rated horse is showing this show result but its not displaying in green.

D1 5/12-1

He won the class, but that night he also started training in D2, so the game knows that I shouldnt re-enter him the next day as he 100% wont place 1-7. Since he is an Elite horse, I wont enter him for another 4 weeks so he is able to catch up with training.

For clarity, I will try entering him again the week of June 7th. He will either place 1-7 and be in the green, or he will place 8 or 9, which means I will wait another week to enter him again. Its also possible he will place 10th, 11th, or 12th, which means ill wait another 2 weeks to enter him.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you want more clarification.

It's good to see someone else doing this too! I have a side account that I am doing the same thing on, I started mine last month I though and I have over 100k already. I'm trying to build it up so I can afford to do another AD program on that account.

Never fear, I didnt forget about this. Here is this weeks showing update:

MAY 17th

IN: You entered 6 horses into reg. shows for 2300.

OUT: You had 6 horses compete in reg. shows earning 4977.

PROFIT: 2,677

MAY 19th

IN: You entered 4 horses into reg. shows for 1600.

OUT: You had 4 horses compete in reg. shows earning 3276.

PROFIT: 1,676

MAY 20th

IN: You entered 4 horses into reg. shows for 1600

OUT: You had 4 horses compete in reg. shows earning 3444.

PROFIT: 1,844

TOTAL SHOWS ENTERED: 14

TOTAL WEEKLY PROFIT: 6,197

So, we can see that I not only entered signifigantly less horses this week, but I also made quite a bit less. This is where we are going to see a bit of a plateau in profits for a few weeks as horses deal with levelling and training. Showing is all based on natural training progressions, so I show you this so you dont panic if some weeks you have much lower profits.

That being said, this particular steep decline is because I bought 20 geldings who were all around the same training. That means they will all level up at the same time, and will probably all be ready at the same time as well. If you want to avoid this for your own sanity, you can try varying the levels/training sessions of geldings you buy so its a little more even!

In just 16 days, this account is already up to 120,000 ebs. I havent decided whether I should wait it out for a 100 stall barn or buy another 25 stall to fill with geldings. Right now im leaning towards the latter, but I need to do some calculations lol.

The other elephant in the room is probably why I havent thought much about purchasing premium yet - and heres why!

Basically since im not breeding and im managing a very small gelding string, theres really no need. I have like, 5 riders who take maybe 2 minutes total to go through and pay each week, and reassigning riders takes me maybe a minute total. Since im showing by hand I dont need the BM, and her other services are really only neccessary for strings of 100+ IMO. So once we get there, Ill consider giving her a jingle. But for now we're free!

Im still no showing professional, but I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have about showing or stable management. Im glad to see that some people have found this helpful already! Until next time.

Update time! Im a bit late, dont yell at me ;)

Here is my showing log from last week:

MAY 25th

IN: You entered 3 horses into reg. shows for 1200.

OUT: You had 3 horses compete in reg. shows earning 2604.

PROFIT: 1,404

MAY 26th

IN: You entered 3 horses into reg. shows for 1200.

OUT: You had 3 horses compete in reg. shows earning 2436.

PROFIT: 1,236

MAY 27th

IN: You entered 3 horses into reg. shows for 1200.

OUT: You had 3 horses compete in reg. shows earning 2016.

PROFIT: 816

TOTAL SHOWS ENTERED: 9

TOTAL WEEKLY PROFIT: 3,456

So, we can really obviously tell my profits and show-ready horses are down. Like a said last week, that has alot to do with natural training progressions. The next few weeks with this particular gelding batch will be more exciting and profitable as they get ready to show as level twos.

Wait, did I just say this batch? Yep, you heard correctly. This account is less than a month in, and we can already afford a new 25 stall barn and 25 5+ training session geldings. So, a big welcome to my lovley new children.

Am I pretty poor right now? Yep, but its all in the name of investment. Risk = reward. Though, I cant deny that my investment is pretty darn safe lol! Those 25 new boys will run in shows this week, and im hoping to have a more interesting show report later on for everyone. I myself am curious to see how long it will take me to refund my new gelding investment. (spend around 135,000) If you have read this far, I would greatly appreciate any feedback on how I can make this more helpful or interesting to people. Im down to do just about anything. :)

We shall see! Until next time <3

Oh, and happy rollover eve!

Good, because I have updates!
Here is my showing log from the past week:

MAY 31st

IN: You entered 27 horses into reg. shows for 8300.

OUT: You had 27 horses compete in reg. shows earning 15246.

PROFIT: 6946

JUNE 1st

IN: You entered 26 horses into reg. shows for 8000.

OUT: You had 26 horses compete in reg. shows earning 15792.

PROFIT: 7,792

JUNE 2nd

IN: You entered 26 horses into reg. shows for 8000.

OUT: You had 26 horses compete in reg. shows earning 13482.

PROFIT: 5,482

TOTAL SHOWS ENTERED: 79

TOTAL WEEKLY PROFIT: 20,220

Helloooooo profit! My new geldings have been making light work of their new showing jobs and have made me a lovley sum of money. By next week ill have made back my horse flesh investment in full, and in a few weeks my barn investment. Then ill hopefully be saving for a 100 stall and letting it all grow exponentially!

Even with all of my spending I still have 45,000 on this account, which by most standards isnt even truly dirt poor. And, get this: we havent even EXISTED for a full month yet. Pretty darn cool if you ask me.

Im free to answer any questions you may have, but I feel as though my full on *tutorial* has come to an end! Ill probably continue posting weekly updates regardless, so I can prove to you how easy it is to make money on HEE if you just use your brain a little bit.

For reference - Ive spent a max 10 minutes a day dealing with all of these ponies. Its really, honestly, and truly not that hard.

Let me know how I can help you!
