So I currently use gimp for my manips. I was just wondering if buying photoshop is worth it? Or if I should just stick with using gimp for free?

It wholly depends on if it'll suit your needs and if you're willing to pay the full, reoccurring price (unless you have a discount, or may an old version that's a 1-time payment).
--
For instance, what type of art do you do? Will this program work for you? Are you not liking GIMP or feel that you need something more advanced? (Keep in mind, GIMP is similar to PS in some ways). How much do you do art?
would this therefore be worth it for you?
--
These are some important questions to ask yourself. (Or, I suppose, if you're still having trouble, posting here, for clarification).

Cats Eye, isn't Krita more more digital painting? So if you want to do image editing purposes, it wouldn't be ideal? I'm not sure what the poster's intentions for the program are though. And I'm sure you could find a way to make Krita work for you in that way, but I'd imagine that I'd be way more complicated. --- I'm certainly not an expert on Krita, just asking lol

It is great for digital painting but it also has all the tools for photo editing. I find it quite similar to photoshop but I know other people who prefer photoshop for editing. I think it depends on the tools you use, and putting time into figuring out the program

I like gimp and it works well, I just feel like it's missing a lot of nice features. One big issue I have with gimp is the smudge tool isn't great for touching up manes and such. I mostly do manips and color lineart for adoptables. I guess I will give it a shot and if I end up liking gimp better I can just cancel. Just wanting a lot for features effects and tools to play around with to improve my art.

Check out Affinity Photo. It is very similar to Photoshop but is a one-time purchase. :)
I use it for all of my art.

Ok thank you for the info! I've only heard about Krita more recently and wasn't aware of its uses. Before then it was GIMP is similar to PS and that was suggested as the free alternative, I haven't gotten around to trying some other applications.
I'll have to try it out sometime soon :D
----
ooh I'll also have to check out Affinity Photo, thanks Willow!

Ok! Then you may very well like PS! I've used both before and I did quite like GIMP (not everyone does), but PS does feel a bit like a step up. I'd suggest seeing if you can do a free trial first, so that you're not spending as much, especially if you don't end up liking it or whatnot. And there's some great tutorials online, both long and short, if you have trouble to getting the hang of it. And there's some features that you might not notice at first, but that tutorials can introduce you too, which can be valuable.
Whatever application you end up using, I like watching tutorials, I find them very helpful for understanding new programs or even ones that I've had for awhile, but want to get more familiar with.

The only other free software that I can think of right now, besides the ones mentioned above is Inkscape. But I dont know if that would suit your needs, seeing that it's a vector software (meaning it'll be great for resizing and keeping quality, but likely not for your image editing purposes). But at least you've got the above suggestions as well!
