This is my most recent piece (haven't made art since last summer) and I tried so many new things! Things I did: - This was my first full color change ever (from a bright-white-toned grey), added patterns (Tobi & roan). I was shooting for a bay roan tobiano. - Tack removal- I removed a halter - I drew the hair myself as opposed to smudging like I used to (the stock had no hair 😭) - added flowers in the foreground, played with lighting + shadows Note: I know the pattern is kind of wacky, I like odd patterns though LOL . . . For reference this is the last piece I did before this one, I think I improved a lot. (I don't need any critique on this one, I know what had to be worked on and this is my old style anyways) Any advice would be great! I am so terrible at hair and grounding and convinced every tutorial out there doesn't work for me LOL Not looking to do an art shop right now but ideas for what tier would be great. I am not very consistent yet though. Thanks! Edited at January 18, 2024 02:59 PM by Florestä

I think it's great, did you greyscale it or repaint it for the color change? I'd love to hear your methods on color changes to get a better idea of how to help<3 - The hair looks really nice considering you don't have much practice, one thing I'd add is a layer under the mane above the horse, using an airbrush tool give the hair a bit of a shadow on the horse ;) - Another small detail is darkening up some of the washed-out areas, like the nostrils and the edges of the legs where they overlap with the body, and the jawline. - For grounding, I have a grass brush that I use on a layer set to Erase and go over where the body is hidden by flowers/grass and such, it works really well! Unfortunately, it's one of the default brushes on Krita so I can't send you a link to download it D': I know there are some great folioge brushes out there but I don't know what software you use. A different way for grass is to use a small(1-3px) hard brush with pressure sensitivity and do little upward strokes on a layer set to Erase to make grass instead of an airbrush or other soft brush :) - In terms of tier, I'd say around low T2 for now :) A little sharper definition in the horse, little shadows, and a little extra work grounding the horse will do wonders<3 Edited at January 19, 2024 10:07 PM by KPH Equestrian

Ooh I just started with this kind of art'in but ill do my best. Do you merge the horse into the bg or merge the bg into the horse? One of the things I do is clip the background duplicate and bring it infront of the horse and blend it into the horse. Oh and don't be afraid to play with the shadows to create more depth (I struggle in this area aha same with lighting) Overall it's a lovely piece and welcome back to the arts <3 Edited at January 19, 2024 10:13 PM by Show Time

Oh, and by the way, this is the most useful forum thread, probably in existence. So many incredible tutorials, some from here, some videos, some on DA. A little bit of everything :D
