This is so cute! I love how it's been colored and the markings! I do have a few things I'd like to point out, one being proportion. His barrel and chest in relation to his rump are off. I think if the back were elongated just a bit, it'd look a little more natural. His neck ties in a little strangely and should be a bit longer. Instead of tying his neck into the bottom of his jaw, a horses neck will tie in behind that mandible like this:  Ears I notice are also really long for an ISH, shortening them up will help. Elongating the snout some will help the piece. I would like to say, try not to smoosh things in one whole image, it gives it an unnatural look, particularly with the tail. Other than proportion, anatomy seems to be really good. I would recommend giving the hooves a bit more angle and mass though. ;) Price wise, it would be a Tier 3 piece probably in the 20-30k range. As original pieces are much less sought after than manipulated pieces prices are really hard to determine. Other than that, keep up the gorgeous work! ^^
Thank you so much! Thats very helpful. I'll make sure to do some more figure studies before I give it another go. I'm not used to drawing horses and I have not been around them in person for a few years. So the anatomy tips are very appreciated! |

You're very welcome! I find it helpful when I do figure studies to just find a bunch of different horse photos and just draw in the gesture and basic musculature. Nothing fancy, just to get an idea.It helps loosen up any future drawings and will help make your details a little bit tighter. (This is just what I do and find that it helps with. ^^) |

@Dev That stock works very nicely together! One thing that I think would add an event of realism is if you were to add a shadow underneath the horse. A second suggestion would be to also add a reflection of the horse's torso are in the water so that to actually looks like it's in the scene. Beautiful work! . @Cain Not sure what part(s) are still a WIP but I think lighting is going to be one of your biggest challenges with this piece. Because you have such a strong light source directly behind the horse, the majority of the horse's body is going to be quite dark with almost a halo of light on the edges. Also make sure the horse casts a strong shadow onto the sand. To make the mane more natural, add a shadow beneath it on the horse. Good luck! . @Winter Kind of hard to see much of the horse itself but I'll try my best 😉 The tail is looking super super cool! Can't wait to see the end result of this one. Looking at the mane compared to the tail tuft, the mane seems less natural just because it isn't completely filled in and it ends in round brush strokes. Try to end in a point - using force fade can help this a lot. Secondly, decide which front leg is closest to the viewer. It's currently rather difficult to tell and therefore kind of throws off the viewer.
. @Astral Elites Gorgeous gorgeous horse and concept. Very elegant. The hair is nicely done as is the Rose in the horse's mouth. My main recommendations would be to look at grounding and lighting. Looking at grounding first, the horse seems to just 'fade' into the grass where there should be multiple strands of grass overlapping the horse. This will add a significant amount of realism. Lighting-wise, I reccomend identifying one specific light source in this piece and highlight the horse accordingly. Looking at the shadows of the flowers, I'd say the light source is coming from the right side of the image. Therefore, the horse's right side facing the light source should be highlighted and the left side should be more so in shadow. Knowing where the light source is will also provide the means to detect where the horse's shadow should fall on the ground <3 |

This looks awesome! The horse needs a shadow and the lighting on the horse could get fixed or touched up though. And I feel like the mane could cast a little bit bigger shadow on the neck :)

I'm with Gem, a shadow and reflection would make it a touch more realistic, as well as maybe the same lighting? The horse has a more purpleish look to it as opposed to the 'darker' look of the background. I personally think a super long float tail dripping off the dock would be awesome too! |
