Would love someone's opinion on this piece! Second completely repainted body prep, in a long time! May be up for auction if it doesn't win.

Hmm, it seems a little too blurry in some areas. Mainly the barrel, where the stomach meets the back leg. Some more definition of the shadow might help. The legs are also a bit blurry, with a little too much highlight for where the light is coming from. The face also is a little too defined, deep shadows and bright highlights. Making it a little softer might help. I definitely think studying horse anatomy would help ^^ The one side "bang" also looks a little choppy, like someone tried to give the horse a bowl cut. The same goes for the tail. The definition strands look good though! I also think the feathering on the legs could blend in a little more. For a piece done from scratch, though, it looks great!

Thank you, my first time ever doing feathers! I hope to do more draft pieces and improve those skills. Highlight for me often gets carried away, I like em shiny! The barrel is throwing me off a bit to, but after working on this for almost 24 hours, I needed another set of eyes. I'm probably going to leave this piece, but will definitely think about the critique on the next one! Thank you!

Would love some feedback on this piece. This is my first time attempting something fantasy, and I'm a little unsure about what else to do with it. Edited at May 23, 2022 11:04 PM by River Valley Equine

Credits are blurry, quality needs revamping. Try re-doing the credits, and also making the overall image larger. (To Moon's) Edited at May 23, 2022 11:04 PM by Rivendell Steeds

I agree with Rivendell that it is a tad blurry. Maybe try using a smaller canvas so the horse is more in focus. Personally I start with 1000 x 1000, and make cuts from there. It could also help to use high quality stock. You can find loads on DA (coulorizestock, fillyrox, buckleighh, etc) as well as adobefree. The background is very pretty. The main thing that sticks out to me here is the lack of a shadow, adding one would make the piece look more realistic, not necessarily in an actual sense of realism as an art style but more so as if to say "yes, this horse was flying in a field for real". The body prep is nice, and the wings are tied in quite well. I understand you were probably going for fairy wings with this, so there won't be a ton to connect to the horse. Another thing I see here is the hair. I'm not sure what app you use, but it seems as though you've used the smudge method and built off the original main. This is completely fine, the ends just need a little more definition. The lighting is quite nice, I like the sparkles. Perhaps adding some smaller sparkles a bit farther from the horse to even it out a bit would look nice. Overall, it's an amazing start. Well done!
