I'm curious, exactly what kind of brushes do you all use for mane and tail? I feel that the one I'm using is limiting me very much because of how it acts and how blurry it is.

I'm using an inbuilt brush in Photoshop with the below settings: (the brush used is the one with currently 32px size on the image)

The problem I have with this brush is that it only narrows down in a certain angle and so I need to keep changing angles, also it is pretty blurry and sometimes hard to see. Even with touch sensitivity turned on, I'm having a hard time creating those one single hairs that fly away in the wind.

I found that the simple round brush on 1px size and touch sensitivity leaves a very pixeled line behind itself so it doesn't look at all good. And everything is just too thick! I'm in a crisis here :,D

So what do you all use? I'm desparate lol

Okie dokie, as a general disclaimer, I probably do hair the hard way. But this is what I personally use:
As you can see, I use a hard round brush (with the hardness reduced to about 75%) set to pressure opactiy and flow. I first sketch my mane, and when I am happy with the shape, I always refine the edges with an eraser.
I make sure to open up the brush settings and check that my brush is set for pen pressure.
You can also use the size jitter to automatically change the size of the brush while you are creating detail strands, to be able to get thick and thin strands as you go, creating natural variation in the hair. I usually don't set this very high, and it might not be on at all, but play around with the percentage and use what you like.
