First one- when doing lighting, especially on a more colorful piece, duplicate the sky, flip it upside down, clip it to your horse, blur the shit out of it (200-300px), and set to Soft Light. Play with the opacity a bit, and walla! It really helps to make your horse match the environment with very little effort. Before, just airbrushed lighting around the edges: - Mirrored, blurred, clipped. I did the hair and body separately just for a bit more variation and because I Felt Like It. - Soft Light, 55% opacity on body, 80% on hair (I forgot to clip a shadow layer on the mane before I took screenshots so pretend the little bit of funky on the face and neck looks good) Edited at April 14, 2025 02:04 PM by KPH Equestrian

One tip i use is to duplicate the bg and put it above everything, then lower it to the brink and it helps make things cohesive <3

^Bingo! I mainly just use the sky for whatever reason, I'm honestly not sure xD It works well for strong lighting :3

Totally! I also use an airbrush and set it to soft light and brush bg colors over which is similar to what you do! :D

Everyone's favorite idiot is back with more tips! Quit it with the color palettes when doing hair and do what I do! Dark gray base with a pressure-sensitive brush, I like one that rotates with the drawing direction. DON'T change colors, just set your brush's blending mode to Addition (I don't know how many programs do this, but if you're cool af like me and use Krita, it'll be up at the top in a drop-down menu under the Settings and Window tabs😎) Set your brush opacity to 5-15% and boom, buildable highlights with no effort, no monochrome color palettes, and then you've got a lovely greyscale to recolor later. Note: I do everything in greyscale first and recolor, which gives me a YHH in case I want to do that later, and you can get the values right before you start messing with hues. I fear those who can just repaint shit in full color first, y'all are magicians or something *screenshots coming soon!*

You're excused(and also a certified sorcerer), since whatever you do obviously works xD I'm just the pinnacle of lazy 😌 Edited at July 10, 2025 05:29 PM by KPH Equestrian
