05:50:40 Iris White did you see the thing Mark Rober did where he put glitter bombs in cars? When people stole the package it would glitter bomb them and record them- not one glitter bomb went to a poor looking home. |
05:50:28 I just really encourage you to look outside yourselves and understand that losing a TV is not the same as losing a life. |
05:49:41 Granny C Iris - yea, I know. Why fear the punishment, when there really isn't any. |
05:49:18 The keyword there is "some" If these are people who already have thousands of dollars, I would understand. But we don't know ALL of their situations. Shooting EVERYONE because 5 of the hundreds of people are doing it unnecessarily is just dumb. There are like 15 billionaires who are stealing more from you every day than these looters, and we don't kill or arrest them for it. |
05:48:12 Iris Granny lol law is going the opposite way right now- I took criminology last semester and they don't even want to put people in jail anymore x-x |
05:48:02 Meant to say looters. But you get my point. |
05:47:29 You guys are the kind of people I like Lotters go to the double hockey stick down under. |
05:46:24 Versa The looters are not homeless nor starving. Some have had interviews. Their excuses is that the houses are burning anyways. They're taking valuables, not survival items. I have no room in my heart for evil. |
05:46:20 Granny C personally, I'd like to see public hanging, make a come back. I know that sounds pretty harsh, but it would be an effective deterrent to those considering a life of crime. |
05:46:16 Iris White I've been poor my whole life- but I was taught it's hard all around no matter your walk of life and that there's no excuse to steal or cheat others |
05:45:37 Its okay the fire has me pissed so do the looters so... |
05:44:53 Sorry, typed that up before I saw your chat, Leaf |
05:44:32 Versa The LAST thing these people need is to return to their home and find a shattered window and a TV of all things stolen. No, it isn't for survival- it's greed. |
05:44:17 I have to say, these perspectives feel a bit privileged to me. LA has a poverty rate of over 30% which is higher than the rest of California. If you had no food, shelter, or family, I think you would feel very differently. This topic is quite upsetting for some people I think - especially the advocating of violence. I won't say more but I would personally hope that at least the topic of violence could be moved elsewhere? |
05:44:14 -HEE Click- This is for all of us to chat about the fire in without takeing up chat! |
05:43:42 Iris White That's the looter's excuse :P they figure "oh they'll bounce back anyhow" |
05:43:03 Versa White, Poverty or not, it is absolutely unacceptable to loot the homes of people who have been evacuated. Doesn't matter if the house hasn't burned down yet. They should be arrested, period. |
05:42:28 How do I make a forum topic? |
05:41:42 DD (#2) Granny C, I agree wholeheartedly <3 |
05:41:35 Granny, I understand the feelings but I dont think promoting shooting people is the way to go. And I think these people do have reason, LA has a huge poverty rate. These people are seeing a chance to maybe afford food or shelter. I understand losing your belongings is hard but some people do have the money or jobs to recover. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of loss and hardship but there's no need to hurt or kill more people. The tragedy is natural disasters, climate change, and poor management of those kinds of things, not people who are stuck in the same natural disaster trying to survive. |
