I tried making my own rope halter, and it ended up being quite difficult, But when it was finished, it could only fit the size of a foal. After that, I gave up because I wasnÂ’t going to try it all over again 😆
i train to ride in a rope halter, my first rides are always in a rope halter, but halter breaking and baby stuff nah its a flat halter all the way, and ive been training babies for over a decade now :)
I have nothing against using flat either. I think I the fact thats all I used when I was taught to ride plays a huge role in the preference. I only ever used zero or 2 knots on the nose and it was drilled into me not to yank on the lead unless absolutely necessacary. I was taught in a bit of an...extreme way
we use the flat halters on the babies at work, find the rope has more bite than is needed for babies plus im more comfortable leaving a flat halter with a leather strap on a baby than i am a rope, ropes so abrasive, i only use it on my older experienced horses and even then i only use mule tapes
