10:58:27 Aviator I know i'd need to do a ton of research, but at the moment I'm happy with my rats and will finish my studies before considering another pet. I just need to research pretty much all types of pets to see which one suits my lifestyle before, need to see if I have the time and money. So I won't have another pet for a long time anyway. |
10:57:57 Hummer Poor guy is probably starving. I was supposed to feed him today, but I am getting home one day late from my trip. Hopefully he will be fine. |
10:57:48 Celeste 🌕 Pics of my current reptiles for tax. -Click- -Click- |
10:57:26 Hummer I am still nervous about my Hoggie having his first shed. His humidity has always been low since I live in such a dry state, but he has a humid hide. |
10:54:22 Celeste 🌕 I have rescued for a few years. And I currently help the rescue localish to me with intakes and medication administration- What Luna says is so true. Reptiles are a different kind of pet from your typical household pet. They all have very different needs. My inbox is always open to anybody who either needs troubleshooting or wants info- if I do not know it someone in my circle does. |
10:53:48 I would try looking into garter snakes if you really want one |
10:53:38 Luna The Gene Queen If you need help I'd be glad to answer any and all snake questions in dms XD my internet right now is finicky as I'm in a bad spot |
10:51:56 Luna The Gene Queen My thing is, If you can't feed a reptile the food it supposed to have because of being squeamish or whatever than reptiles arwnt an animal you should get as they have very strict husbandry protocols and health needs that if not met can kill them or make them sick. I'd do a lot of research and make sure you speak to experienced breeders/veterinarians who specialize in reptiles and make sure you do tons of research into what they need as an enclosure set up etc. |
10:51:31 Hummer @Celeste, that is good to know. I warned someone in the group who was asking that I have heard that reptilinks doesnt provide full nutrition, but a lot of people disagreed with me. 🤷🏼♀️ |
10:50:14 Hummer I would agree with looking into lizards if you dont mind insects. |
10:50:01 Celeste 🌕 Reptilinks are great for certain species. But I never recommend them for snakes, after rescuing and seeing what all I have seen. If you cannot feed rodents, do not get a rodent eating snake. Look into other options :) There are so many options. |
10:48:36 Celeste 🌕 If bugs do not bother you- look into lizards. Some lizards do not get very big, and are easy to care for and handle. My beardie is amazing. He gets Dubia roaches, superworms, and will be receiving other stuff once I order it online |
10:48:27 Hummer @Celeste, I have heard that too about reptilinks. |
10:48:21 Luna The Gene Queen Hummer, only issue with that is that most snakes prefer rodents. Something that looks like an animal. Not all snakes will take reptilinks and some of those alternative foods arent always healthy compared to the actual thing |
10:48:01 Aviator Ah okay, thanks guys. I'm only considering one though, just have see how much free time I have after studies <3 |
10:47:18 Hummer Garter snakes arenÂ’t great for handling though based on my research. |
10:47:15 Celeste 🌕 I would really research reptiliinks before getting them. I have met snakes that were solely fed that and they had health issues due to malnutrition. If a snake you are getting is a rodent eater- rodents are the best way to go. I was Squeamish about feeding rodents to my first snake- She was live fed. I switched her to frozen/thawed and had an easier time. My current snake eats frozen/thawed mouse hoppers. Live prey can be hard to feed, because you have to be there while they hunt until the rodent has expired. |
10:46:51 Luna The Gene Queen We are eventually getting a hog nose |
10:46:47 Hummer Some people in my Facebook groups have looked into that because they feel better feeding their s and something like that doesnt look dead per se |
